    After the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the adjustment of colleges and departments of higher education, Nankai University has been evaluated as a national key university with disciplinary development of both liberal art and science. Since the Reform and Opening, incorporating Tianjin Institute of Foreign Trade and China Institute of Tourism Management and supported by both the Ministry of Education and Tianjin Municipal Government, Nankai University developed into a comprehensive and research-oriented university which was listed in the key construction projects of “985” and “211”.

    In September 2015 when the new campus was opened, Nankai formed for the first time the “three-campus” educational layout constituted by Balitai, Jinnan and TEDA.

    In September 2017, Nankai University was selected as a national university of world first-class construction with other 41 universities, which was also one of 36 A-level universities.
