    The Confucius Institute at the University of Glasgow was established in October 2011. Chief Minister of Scotland Mr. Alexander Salmond, Chinese Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Scotland Mr. Li Ruiyou, and a delegation from Nankai University led by its President Professor Gong Ke and Vice President Professor Zhu Guanglei, along with members of the academic community attended the unveil ceremony.

    The overarching aim of the Confucius Institute at the University is to promote understanding of contemporary China. Its specific goals are to increase the numbers of Chinese language learners in Scotland, to organize a wide range of public events, and to work with schools, cultural organizations and businesses to foster engagement with China.
