I.Organization

As an exploration into new type of College, and relying on College of Computer and College of Cyber Science, Turing College has hired key tutors from College of Electronic Information and Optical Engineering, School of Medicine, College of Environmental Science and Engineering, College of Chemistry, School of Mathematical Sciences and other colleges. With recruitment to whole university, the College is striving to build a school-wide “teacher-student community”, with enrollment of 100 students each year for a one-year training session.

The College is a non-entity institution, which practices a system wherein the Dean shall assume overall responsibility, and has one Dean, Professor Yuan Xiaojie, Dean of College of Computer. A comprehensive office of the College is set in the College of Computer, responsible for the daily operation and management of College affairs.

II. Features

Supported by smart Platform, Turing College explores a new form of College system and builds a “teacher-student community” developing together online and offline around computational science and its application in various disciplines, including College of Electronic Information and Optical Engineering, College of Software, School of Mathematical Sciences, School of Statistics and Data Science, College of Environmental Science and Engineering, College of Chemistry, School of Physics, School of Artificial Intelligence, etc. By providing students with comprehensive guidance from academic planning and learning guidance, to career and life goals, and by making full of its cross-disciplinary advantages, a holistic education atmosphere is created with innovative undergraduate training initiatives.

Online part: A real-time online communication environment is created through WeChat, self-built platform and other ways, where teachers and students in the virtual network and virtual environment could exchange ideas, answer questions and puzzles at the same time, so as to build up two different types of guiding system of scientific research and teaching.

Two different types of teaching teams will be assembled, namely scientific research team and teaching team. The team of scientific research teachers focuses on the academic guidance of students, while the teaching team focuses on the learning guidance. Through frequent online activities in the form of seminars, exchanges, and academic Q&A sessions, the convenience, flexibility and vividness of academic and learning guidance will be enhanced, improving the communication and interaction with students, and achieving the goal of mutual learning, teaching and progressing.

Offline part: This part will mainly rely on academic reports and face-to-face exchanges in specific places. By regularly organizing offline teacher-student community activities, holding academic reports, seminars and tutor workshops, as well as face-to-face communication between students and teachers, the problems in students’ learning and life will be addressed more directly and clearly, thus enhancing the coherence of teachers and students, and improving academic atmosphere. Students will be grouped with specified subjects for choosing, which is helpful to train top-notch scientific talents.
