1. Eligibility 

Applicants must be healthy, non-Chinese citizens and foreign passport holders, with corresponding degree and language proficiency, but with no criminal record in China.

(1) Master’s degree applicants must have a bachelor’s degree of Chinese college or an equivalent degree; 

(2) Doctoral degree applicants must have a master’s degree of Chinese college or an equivalent degree; 

(3) Language requirement 

(a)To apply for the Chinese-taught courses, the applicant should at least pass the HSK level 4 examination (210 points). 

(b)To apply for the English-taught courses, the applicant should have corresponding linguistic competence. Please refer to the specific enrollment guide of each major.

(4) The applicant's physical condition should meet the Physical Examination Standards for International Students in China promulgated by the Ministry of Education of People’s Republic of China. And the applicant should submit a medical form approved by the Chinese health quarantine department.

(5) Chinese citizens who apply for Nankai University as international students after immigrating abroad must hold a valid foreign passport or nationality certificate for more than 4 years (inclusive) and a two-year proof (at least) of residence abroad for the last four years (a full or longer period of nine months of residence abroad can be counted as one year as verified by entry and exit records).

(6) All the international students should abide by the Chinese law and regulation and school disciplines   and respect social customs and habits of Chinese people.

    Except the English-taught courses, the other courses are taught in Chinese. 

(4) Length of Study 

The length of study refers to the basic duration of study at school prescribed for all types of graduate students at all levels in Nankai University. The actual duration of the graduate study should be no less than the basic length of study. The basic length of study is subject to the duration of study stipulated in the training scheme in the year of enrollment. Graduate students who have reached the maximum length of study must stop their studies and go through the formalities for leaving school:

(1) The basic length of study for master's degree is 2-3 years. There are two types of master's degrees: 

      Academic Degree and Professional Degree.

 Academic Degree

 a. A flexible two-year length of study is executed in the School of Law, the Zhou Enlai School of Government, the School of Business, and International Politics program of the Institute of Japanese Studies. 

 b. A flexible three-year length of study is executed in the other master programs;

 c. For the length of study of international cooperation programs of Nankai University and the University of Glasgow and international cooperation programs of Nankai University and the University of Melbourne, please refer to the admissions instructions of the cooperative education programs.

  Professional Degree

  a. The length of study for the Professional Degree of the following majors is 3 years, including Electronic Information (including research directions of Electronic and Communication Engineering, Optical Engineering, Integrated Circuit Engineering, Computer Technology, Control Engineering and Software Engineering), Materials and Chemical Engineering (including research directions of Materials Engineering and Chemical Engineering), Resources and Environment (Environment Engineering direction), Biology and Medicine (including research directions of Bioengineering and Pharmaceutical Engineering), Master of Agriculture, Clinical Medicine, Stomatology, Master of Cultural Heritage and Museology, Law (non-legal science);

  b. The length of study for the Professional Degree of the majors of Public Administration, Accounting, Library and Information Studies, Tourism Administration is 2.5 years;

   c. The length of study for Professional Degree of other majors is 2 years.

(2) The basic length of study for doctoral degree is 4 years, and the degree type is Academic Degree.

(3) Maximum length of study 

Master 

The maximum length of study for Academic Degree (including time of retention of student status and of suspension of schooling) is extended by 1 year based on the basic length of study. And the basic length of study and maximum length of study (including time of retention of student status and of suspension of schooling) for Professional Degree are subject to Regulations on Management of Professional Degree Graduate Students in Nankai University. 

PhD

The maximum length of study for PhD degree (including time of retention of student status and of suspension of schooling) is 6 years.


4. Application Process and Required Materials

(1) Application process: online application before the deadline. 

(2) Materials required 

1. Application Form for International Students in Nankai University. Please log in to the website: http://nankai.17gz.org/ to complete and submit the online application. 

2. Applicants for the Chinese Government Scholarship should login to the website:

       http://www.campuschina.org, complete the application, and submit it. 

      (Note: Please choose “B” for “Program Category” and type “10055” as the “Agency No.”.)

3. Applicants for the Confucius China Studies Program Scholarship should log in             to the Confucius China Studies Program Application System 

      (website: http://ccsp.chinese.cn/article/2018-11/27/content_753817.html),complete the application, and submit it

    4. Applicants for the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship must be recommended by their Confucius Institute or Nankai University. At the same time, they should log in to the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship Application System 

(website: http://cis.chinese.cn/account/login), complete the application, and submit it. 

5. Highest degree certificate. If the applicant is a fresh graduate at school, it is necessary to submit a certificate issued by its current school to prove the expected graduation date. For documents or certificates in languages other than Chinese or English, notarized Chinese or English translations are required.

6. Transcript. For documents or certificates in languages other than Chinese or English, notarized Chinese or English translations are required.

7. Personal Statement. The Personal Statement should include study and research plan in China, family financial situation, reasons for scholarship application, awards and personal strengths, etc. (not less than 800 words), written in Chinese or English.

8. Applicants must submit two recommendation letters from associate professors and above, written in Chinese or English, and attach the recommender's phone number and email address.

9. Applicants who apply for Chinese-taught majors must provide the HSK score report.

10.Copy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Please download the form at: http://study.nankai.edu.cn/stu/14330/list.htm Please fill in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form in English. Applicants should take the physical examination strictly following the items listed in the form. Incomplete forms, forms without the photo of the applicant or photos without a seal and without the signature of the attending physician or the official stamp of the hospital are considered invalid. The physical examination result is valid for 6 months. Please ensure that the result is within the validity period during the registration period in Nankai University.

11. Copy of passport (valid until April 1, 2022 or later).

12. Copy of the application fee receipt or payment voucher. The application fee for graduate students is 600 yuan. Please submit the fee to the Nankai University Registry (the ground floor of the Nankai University Student Activity Center, Balitai Campus). Bank wire transfer is accepted. 5. Assessment and admission

(1) Assessment 

After passing the qualification review, the college (institute) will adopt the following methods to assess and select the best applicants according to the applicant's profile and program requirements:

Material review;

Written examination or interview.

For specific assessment methods, content, dates and other matters, please consult the application college directly.

(2) Query of admission results

Admission results will be announced on the websites of the Graduate School and the School of International Education of Nankai University.

(3) Enrollment time

1. The registration time and requirements are subject to the Admission Notice or the notice on the website of the School of International Education of Nankai University. 

2. Admitted students must go to Nankai University to complete the admission and registration procedures in strict accordance with the time specified in the Admission Notice.

3. Candidates’ original degree certificate must be verified when enrolling. Those who have not obtained the corresponding degree will be disqualified for admission.

The above are the fees of Chinese-taught courses. The expenses for accommodation, meals, textbooks and experiments, internship and professional visits beyond the te-aching plans are all paid by the students.

 English-taught courses 

Tuition fee for the English-taught programs of Nankai University-University of Glasgow Joint Graduate School is 50,000 yuan/academic year.

(2) Scholarships

Nankai University supports outstanding foreign students to come to our school for postgraduate study and provides various scholarships for outstanding international students.

Study-at-Nankai Scholarship

a. Scholarship value 

Study-at-Nankai scholarship (new students)

Special prize: tuition value and 18,000 yuan

First prize: tuition value and 10,000 yuan

Second prize: tuition value

Third prize: 18,000 yuan

b. Eligible applicants 

All self-financed international students who apply for undergraduate, master and PhD degrees are eligible to apply. They will be considered based on their school performance, school popularity and school recommendation, and do not need to apply separately. Particularly outstanding students can receive both the Tianjin Government Scholarship and the Study-at-Nankai Scholarship. 

c. Application period: December 1, 2020-March 31, 2021

Tianjin Government Scholarship

a. Scholarship value

Undergraduate: 20,000 yuan/person/year

Master: 30,000 yuan/person/year 

PhD: 38,000 yuan/person/year

b. Eligible applicants

All self-financed international students who apply for undergraduate, master and PhD degrees are eligible to apply. They will be considered based on their school performance, school popularity and school recommendation, and do not need to apply separately.

c. Application period: December 1, 2020-March 31, 2021

Chinese Government Scholarship

a. Scholarship Value

Exemption from tuition fee;

Exemption from on-campus accommodation fee;

Living allowance:  3,000 yuan/month for master’s students and 3,500 yuan /month for doctoral students.

provision of coverage of comprehensive medical insurance (1,000 yuan/person/year)

2. Eligible applicants

Those who study for a master's degree must have a bachelor's degree and be under the age of 35; those who study for a doctoral degree must have a master's degree and be under the age of 40;

The applicants should not receive any other scholarship from any Chinese governments, institutions or enterprises during the same study period.

c. Application period: December 1, 2020-March 31, 2021

4. Confucius China Studies Program Scholarship

a. Scholarship value 

Exemption from tuition fee;

        Providing living allowance and accommodation allowance, project survey expenses and international round-trip travel expenses, etc.;

Providing comprehensive insurance of 1,000yuan/person/year for international students in China (purchased uniformly).  

b. Eligible applicants 

Non-Chinese applicants with Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (HSK) level 5 or above or equivalent.

c. Application period: November 2020-February 2021

International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship 

a. Scholarship value 

Exemption from tuition fee;

Exemption from on-campus accommodation fee;

Living allowance: 3000 yuan/month;

Providing comprehensive insurance of 1,000yuan/person/year for international students in China (purchased uniformly).  

b. Eligible applicants 

Non-Chinese applicants in good health and generally between 16 and 35 years old. Having a bachelor's degree or equivalent; Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (HSK) level 5 (210 points) and Intermediate Hanyu Shuiping Kouyu Kaoshi (HSKK) score of 60 or higher. Those who provide a notarized proposed work protocol for the educational institution are preferred.

c. Application date: March-June (It is subject to the admission brochure.)

(3) Medical insurance

According to the regulations of Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China, international students must purchase comprehensive medical insurance for foreign students when they study in China.

The international students could purchase medical insurance on the day of registration at the Registry. The international students are not permitted to register without purchasing the medical insurance. 

(4) Accommodation   

No.2 and No.4 Buildings of Yiyuan are the accommodation for the international students in the Balitai Campus, Nankai University; International student apartment is the accommodation for the international students in the Jinnan Campus, Nankai University. The charge standard and method of accommodation shall be implemented in accordance with the latest school policies.
