TIANJIN GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIP

Eligibility 

     1.Applicant must be a non-Chinese citizen, under the age of 25, and have a high school diploma.

     2.Applicant is applying for studying in a bachelor's degree in Nankai University, or already enrolled in bachelor majors of Nankai University

Application Procedures 

1. Submit an online application prior to May 10th.

2. Interview (Informed by schools).

3. Upon completing the application process and being formally accepted into Nankai University's programs, the applicant's information will then be submitted to the foreign students’ admission committee for review. Only after being accepted to Nankai University can a student qualify for a scholarship.

4. The results will be further notified.

5. In early July, the International Students Office will mail applicants an Acceptance Letter as well as Form JW202 - Visa Application for Study in China and any other relevant documents.

Application Materials 

1. Please register in http://nankai.17gz.org/member/login.do and complete the online application. (Choose Self-sponsored (Other colleges))

2. The Highest diploma. If applicants are university students or are already employed, they should also provide Current Enrollment Verification Certification or on-post employees. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English, notarized translations in Chinese or English are required.

3. Official transcripts. Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English, notarized translations in Chinese or English are required.

4. Personal Statement, including study or research plan, personal background, financial situation, personal strengths, etc., written in Chinese or English (no less than 300 words).

5. One recommendation letter in Chinese or English is a must.

6. Applicants are required to have HSK level 4 or above.

7. Photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form (printed by Chinese Quarantine Authority - only required for those whose period of studies in China lasts more than six months) filled out in English. The medical examinations must cover all of the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital, or a sealed (stamped) photograph of the applicants are invalid. The medical examination results will be valid for six months. All applicants are kindly requested to take this factor into consideration while determining when to take the medical examination.  CONFUCIUS INSTITUTE SCHOLARSHIP

 Eligibility 

All applicants shall be

A. Non-Chinese citizens

B. In good physical and mental condition, and excellent both in conduct and learning.

C. Aspiring to take on future careers related to the international promotion or teaching of

Chinese language.

D. Between the ages of 16-35 on September 1st, 2019. Applicants currently working as Chinese language teachers shall not exceed the age limit of 45, while undergraduate students shall not exceed the age limit of 25.



SCHOLARSHIP CATEGORIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

A. Scholarship for Master’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (MTCSOL)

Commences in September 2019 and provides scholarship for a maximum of two academic years. Applicants shall be Bachelor degree holders, and have a minimum score of 210 in the HSK test (Level 5) as well as 60 in the HSKK test (Intermediate Level). Applicants who are able to provide a notarized document or related proofs of an employment agreement upon completing studies in China are preferred.

B. Scholarship for Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (BTCSOL)

Commences in September 2019 and provides scholarship for a maximum of four academic years. Applicants must have graduated with a high school diploma, , and have a minimum score of 210 in the HSK test (Level 4) as well as 60 in the HSKK test (Intermediate Level).

C. Scholarship for One-Academic-Year Study

Commences in September 2019, and provides scholarship for a maximum of 11 months. International students currently studying in China are not eligible.

a) TCSOL

Applicants shall have a minimum score of 270 in the HSK test (Level 3), as well as an HSKK test score.

b) Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese History, and Chinese Philosophy

Applicants shall have a minimum score of 180 in the HSK test (Level 4) and 60 in the HSKK test (intermediate level).

c) Chinese Language Study

Applicants shall have a minimum score of 210 in the HSK test (Level 3).

D. Scholarship for One-Semester Study

Commences either in September 2019 or March 2020 and provides scholarship for a maximum of 5 months. Applicants withholding visas X1 or X2 are not eligible.

Study direction can be TCSOL, Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese History or Chinese Philosophy.

Applicants shall have a minimum score of 180 in the HSK test (Level 3), as well as an HSKK test score.

E. Scholarship for Four-Week Study

Commences either in July or December of 2019, and provides a four-week scholarship. Applicants withholding visas X1 or X2 are not eligible.

a) Chinese Language plus home-stay experience with a Chinese Family

HSK test scores are required. Groups of 10-15 applicants need to be organized and registered by a Confucius Institute. Prior to the trip, a detailed study plan shall be elaborated after consultation with host institutions and submitted to Hanban for approval.

b) Special Four-week Program for Confucius Institutes

HSK test scores are required. Groups of 10-15 applicants need to be organized and registered by a Confucius Institute.

Application Procedures 

A.Online registration will be available from March 1, 2019 on the Confucius Institute Scholarship website at http://cis.chinese.cn. Please log on and upload the application materials online.

B.Please register on the Nankai University admission website (http://nankai.17gz.org), and complete the online application for international students of NKU.

C.Track the application progress, application reviews and admission results.

D.Upon being admitted by the CIS, scholarship holders need to contact our university to confirm admittance and go through the application procedures for studying in China, print out the CIS certificate (cis.chinese.cn), and register at the designated date and time as per the letter of admission.

E.The application deadlines are

a) April 20th (for those commencing in July)

b) May 20th (for those commencing in September)

c) September 20th (for those commencing in December)

d) November 20th (for those commencing in March 2020)



CHINESE BRIDGE AWARD RECIPIENT POLICIES

Chinese Bridge winners who have been awarded the 2019 “Confucius Institute Scholarship Certificate” shall log onto the CIS website and submit their documents to us. If there is any question, please contact chinesebridge@hanban.org.

Application Materials 

A.A scanned copy of the passport photo page

B.A scanned copy of the score reports of the HSK and HSKK tests (within the two-year validity).

C.A recommendation letter by the head of the recommending institution.

D.A certification of the highest education diploma (or proof of expected graduation) and an official transcript.

E.Applicants of the scholarship for the MTCSOL program are required to provide 2 reference letters from professors or associate professors. Those who can provide a notarized employment agreement with a teaching institution are preferred.

F.Applicants currently working as Chinese language teachers shall provide their proof of employment as well as a reference letter by the employing institution

G.Applicants under the age of 18 shall provide a certified document of custody signed by the applicant’s parent and their entrusted legal guardians in China.

H.Foreigner Physical Examination Form(written in English). The physical examinations must cover all of the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete forms or forms without the signature of the attending physician, or the official stamp of the hospital, or a sealed photograph of the applicant are considered as invalid. Please carefully plan your physical examination schedule as the result is valid for only 6 months.

Value of Award 

A.The Confucius Institute Scholarship provides full coverage on tuition fees, accommodation fees, living allowance (four-week study students are excluded) and comprehensive medical insurance expenses.

B.Living allowance is granted on a monthly basis. The monthly allowance for undergraduates, one-academic-year study students and one-semester students is 2,500 CNY per person. For MTCSOL student, the monthly allowance is 3,000 CNY per person. Free dormitory in a shared double-room will be offered by the university.

C.Comprehensive medical insurance is purchased by Nankai University in accordance with the relevant regulations for studying in China stipulated by the Ministry of Education of China.

D.Students are required to complete enrollment procedures for every semester within the stipulated period. Students who enroll before the 15th (or on the 15th) of the month are entitled to the full allowance of that month while those enrolled after the 15th of that month are only entitled to half of the amount.

E.During the period of study, for any student who is absent from China due to personal reasons for more than 15 days (excluding winter and summer holidays), the allowance during absence will be suspended. For students who suspend their studies or drop out of school for personal reasons, or who are given disciplinary punishment by the host institutions, allowance will be terminated on the date of such suspension, drop-out or when the decision of such punishment is announced. The living allowance for the month of graduation will be granted for half a month after the date of graduation or the expiration day of studies confirmed by the host institutions.

F.Degree students shall accept an annual assessment under the Annual Appraisal Procedures of Confucius Institute Scholarship. Those who failed to register on time, failed to pass the health assessment, dropped out midway and/or were suspended will be deprived of the scholarship.
