The Debate & Eloquence Association

The tradition of debate, which traces its history back to 1993, has deep roots at Nankai University. As competition intensifies in contemporary society, more and more people are pursuing outstanding eloquence and a speculative spirit as necessary talents to develop in this new era. The Debate & Eloquence Association has been a part of the growth and development of debate at Nankai since its foundation in 1996. From the large-scale debate events of all kinds held in the 1990s to the Beijing-Tianjin region competitions held over recent years, we have never missed a single one. The cultivation of a solid debate foundation and a style aimed at seeking knowledge has long been our mission. We hope that debate will become an effective approach for the promotion of college students’ self-growth and comprehensive quality improvement as well as holistic personality formation. 

The Debate & Eloquence Association has gone through trials and hardships over its twenty years while adhering to its tenets: Following Current Events, Aspiring after Truth, Training Eloquence, and Promoting Comprehensive Quality Purpose. Throughout those past twenty years, we have dedicated ourselves to disseminating the culture of debate so as to explore and promote our talents unceasingly, to build a stage for every single Nankaier who loves debating with enthusiasm and effort, and to contribute to the construction of Nankai campus culture with thoughtfulness and passion.

In accordance with our association’s purpose, we would like to warmly invite any person who has studied debate to serve as our counselor, and we promise to advance through dedicated practice and improvements. Our association was awarded the title of the Model of Tianjin Excellent Student Society in 2011. Since the foundation of our association twenty years ago, we have been significantly supported by the school’s leadership and noted public figures. Meanwhile, the close attention of students and teachers has also been our motivation to enhance campus culture. No pain, no gain! The Debate & Eloquence Association of Nankai will amplify our influence to every corner of our campus, encouraging the art of debate to spread and take root.
