Nankai Delivers “Experimental Equipment Gift Parcels” to Students at Home

2020-05-18

“I received a ‘gift parcel’ full of experimental equipment!” Recently, Ye Peijun, 2018 undergraduate of Nankai University, happily showed on WeChat Moments. Many students of Nankai University actually found out that they have received the same parcels and everyone posted pictures of them. The correspondents learnt that this is an “experimental equipment gift parcel” for the undergraduates at home, which is prepared by 7 teachers in the research group of “Digital Electronic Technology Experiment” in the College of Electronic Information and Optical Engineering (CEIOE) of Nankai University.

“During the time of prevention and control of COVID-19, we insisted on ‘uninterrupted learning’, ‘uninterrupted teaching’ and ‘no postponement’, but carrying out the experimental teaching for the science and engineering students has been a great challenge. Since the early stage of the outbreak, teachers in the group has been researching all kinds of teaching methods. After a comparative demonstration of multiple schemes, a final decision was made: to pack up the equipment related to the electronic laboratory and send it to students’ home, so that students can carry out experiments at home!” said Zhang Ying, Deputy Director of the Teaching Center for Electronic Information Experiment (TCEIE) of Nankai University.

Sun Guiling, Deputy Dean of CEIOE and Director of TCEIE, said that “There are 20 undergraduate theory and experiment courses that are involved in TCEIE this semester. In order to make sure that the experimental courses will be carried out successfully, teachers in the group sub-packaged and packaged the items on shifts. It was only 5 days from buying to finishing the packaging. The sub-package, packaging and delivering were all disinfected, so as to make sure they were hygienically safe. A total of 254 students were delivered the ‘gift parcels’ and no student of the course has been forgotten.”

The “experimental equipment gift parcel” also “hides” a letter. The letter says that Nankai University has had its own duty and responsibility since its foundation, and by no means could this special period reduce the love of teachers for students. Today’s youth, tomorrow’s backbone! They hope that students will study hard so as to master the knowledge and skills of their major and be determined to serve the society and the motherland and to become an excellent NKUer with both “gong” (dedication to public interests) and “neng” (acquisition of all-roud capability)!

“It was a real surprise to receive ‘the special parcel’ from the teachers! I used to dream about ‘moving a laboratory into home’ a lot, but I didn’t expect that this could have become real! I will get full use of this opportunity to practice my experimental skills and apply what I’ve learnt into practice!” said Zhu Xiaoxiao, 2018 undergraduate student of CEIOE of Nankai University.
