In order to implement the National Development Plan for New Generation of Artificial Intelligence and to further develop social experimental research of the new national generation in artificial intelligence innovation and development pilot area (hereinafter referred to as “artificial intelligence pilot area”), on August 17, the expert seminar on social experiment activities in Tianjin Artificial Intelligence experimental area was held in Nankai University. It was jointly organized by the Chinese Institute of New Generation Artificial Intelligence Development Strategies and Tianjin Municipal Science and TechnologyBureau. JunSu, leader of the overall expert group of national new generation artificial intelligence social experiment, YanhuiZu, deputy director of Tianjin Municipal Science and TechnologyBureau and GONG Ke, President of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations and Chinese Institute of New Generation Artificial Intelligence Development Strategies, attended the meeting.

At the seminar, JunSu delivered a wonderful report on the social experimental methods and ideas for promoting intelligent social governance. Professor GangLiu, director of the Institute of Economic Research of Nankai University, presented the results of continuous research and database construction in the field of artificial intelligence. Nearly 30 experts and scholars participated in the discussion and launched some “brainstorm” to actively offer suggestions for the social experiment work in Tianjin Artificial Intelligence pilot area.

GONG Ke pointed out that the social experiment research of artificial intelligence should be defined as“scientific experiment” and carried out according to the scientific scheme and path. He suggested that the combination of ecological civilization and sustainable development should be considered in the top-level design of social experiment to realize the organic combination of social experiment, technical experiment and policy experiment. YanhuiZu expressed his heartfelt thanks to the experts for their long-term support for the innovation of artificial intelligence in Tianjin and put forward clear requirements for the next step in order to carry out the social experiment of artificial intelligence.

During the seminar, experts and scholars fully exchanged research results, marking the formal launch of social experiment activities in Tianjin Artificial Intelligence pilot area. Social experiment research is considered as an important measure to further implement General Secretary Xi Jinping’s speech on artificial intelligence as well as the spirit of congratulatory letter to the third session ofWorld Intelligent Conference. It mainly constructs the artificial intelligence pilot area in Tianjin. In the next step, relying on the multidisciplinary research advantages of Nankai University, the Chinese Institute of New Generation Artificial Intelligence Development Strategies will give further play to the platform advantages, selecting and organizing the participation of national high-level experts, conducting a comprehensive study on the social impact of artificial intelligence to provide support for the healthy development of artificial intelligence in Tianjin and even in the whole country. It will explore new ideas, new methods and new means of government governance in the era of intelligence.
