The 7th “Charity Morning Run” Held by Nankai University

On October 5th  and 7th  the “Charity Morning Run” with the theme of “Building Dreams in Zhuanglang through the Charity Morning Run” was held at Nankai University. Nankai University’s faculty and students helped support primary students’ study and life in Zhuanglang County of Pingliang City, Gansu Province with a warm morning run to contribute to local targeted poverty alleviation work. On the first day of the activity, almost 200 faculty and students participated with enthusiasm.

During the activity, if the accumulated mileage of participants reaches 3200 meters, the Zhuanglang primary school students supported by Nankai University will receive a book worth 20 yuan; if 10000 meters is reached, students will receive bags containing stationery worth 60 yuan.

“It is my second time participating in the ‘Charity Morning Run’, said Haoyu Zhang, a 2018 undergraduate from the School of Electronic Information and Optical Engineering, Nankai University, “Our senior principal Zhang Boling once uttered the strong voice of the times saying that ‘the country must be strong, and the seed must be strengthened’. The ‘Charity Morning Run’ can be used for public welfare and to give love to children in poor mountainous areas, which is quite meaningful.”

Tianci Li, a master’s student from the School of Electronic Information and Optical Engineering, Nankai University, said: “I have been participating in this activity since freshman year. I donated 50 bags to the students with my accumulated mileage and sent the bags to them by person through social practice activities. I feel very happy that I can help them through my practical actions.”

As one of the organizers, Kunbi Zhu, a 2019 undergraduate from the School of Electronic Information and Optical Engineering, Nankai University, said:During the morning run this year, besides preparing postcards for the students, we also arranged a lucky draw to encourage them. Please write the wishes on the postcards, and we will bring them to the students.”

The “Charity Morning Run” of this year was sponsored by the Jianming Wu Alumni Fund. Jianming Wu is an alumni of 1988 from the Microelectronics of Department of Electronics, Nankai University. Jianming Wu conveyed his hope to help primary students from impoverished areas of Zhuanglang to improve their education through the support of alumni.

As estimated, during the first six “Charity Morning Runs”, with the active participation of faculty and students, the accumulated mileage reached 19000 kilometers. “Building Dreams in Zhuanglang through the Charity Morning Run” team has donated four Nankai Libraries, twi Sunshine Sports Grounds, over 900 love bags, and over 6000 books and dictionaries. Concurrently, the “Charity Morning Run Fund” was established in Nanhu Town of Zhuanglang County, Gansu Province.
