On October 8, the seventh alumni congress of the Nankai Alumni Association was held in Tianjin. Almost 200 people attended the Congress, including representatives from subsidiary organizations of the Nankai Alumni Association and local alumni associations. Some alumni representatives from home and abroad attended the conference online.

Distinguished attendees included Xing Yuanmin, Honorary Chairman of the Nankai Alumni Association; Zhang Yuanlong, one of the relatives of Former President Zhang Boling; Hou Zixin, Honorary Chairman of the Nankai Alumni Association; Wang Shucheng, former chief editor of the overseas edition of People's Daily; Chen Hong, Vice Chairman of the Nankai Alumni Association; Yang Qingshan, Chancellor of Nankai University; Cao Xuetao, President of Nankai University; Xu Jingjun, Executive Vice President of Nankai University; Yang Kexin, Vice Chancellor of Nankai University. The Congress was presided over by Zhu Guanglei and Xu Jingjun, Executive Vice Presidents of the Sixth Council of the Nankai Alumni Association. 

In his opening speech, Cao Xuetao welcomed the alumni representatives from all over the world. He pointed out that the Nankai Alumni Association has gone through a glorious journey in these 91 years. On behalf of the schools entitled Nankai, he expressed his gratitude to the Association for its tireless efforts and hard work, and congratulated the organization on the remarkable achievements it has already made.

Zhu Guanglei, as the representative of the 6th Council, gave a report entitled “Sparing no Effort to Promote the Prosperous Development of Nankai Education with Dedicated Service and Teamwork.” He expressed his wish that the new Council would help each other, enhance the Nankai brand, build relationship bridges, improve the level of service, improve mechanisms and expand new business.

In his speech, Yang Qingshan expressed his hearty gratitude to the predecessors and the previous Council board who contributed to the development of the Nankai Alumni Association. He said that the achievements that the previous council has made were a solid foundation for the future work of the new council. The development of Nankai Education cannot do without the ardent concern and strong support of the alumni.

Kang Xiuyan, Senior Advisor of the Nankai Alumni Association, Zhang Wenzhong, Vice Chairman of the Nankai Alumni Association, Liu Yifang, President of the Nankai Alumni Association in Beijing, and Xin Xiaoyu, representative of the Nankai Alumni Association in Moscow, delivered speeches in the Congress. They recalled their experience at Nankai University and expressed their pride as NKers.

Accompanied by Xu Jingjun, Yang Qingshan met with the family of  Yan Xiu, Zhang Bo-ling, Yu Chuan-jian and other representatives, and thanked them for their outstanding contributions to the development of Nankai University.

At the same time, the Congress held the 9th President’s Round Table Meeting of Nankai Series Schools, the signing ceremony of Delong Steel Group’s donation to Nankai University, the 7th Alumni Forum of Nankai Alumni Association and other activities. In order to celebrate the successful opening of the Congress and the 101st anniversary of Nankai University on October 17, a wonderful light show was performed in Tianjin Tower on that night.

 

Throughout the past seven years, the Nankai Alumni Association has made a series of excellent achievements under the leadership of the sixth council. In the new era, the Association will actively revise the constitution, set up the supervisory board, strengthen the management and improve the system. The Nankai Alumni Association was founded in 1929, and was known as “the top alumni association in the period of the Republic of China.” Today, it has gone through 91 years of development and is still an outstanding association with many member organizations,  alumni and outstanding achievements.
