On October 17th, the 101st anniversary of Nankai University and the 30th anniversary of the graduation of its alumni of the class of 1990 were held in the EDP Center of Balitai Campus. Alumni of the class of 1990 from home and abroad returned to the “online classroom” to celebrate the “birthday” of their Alma mater. Cao Xuetao, President of Nankai University sent his cordial greetings to the alumni via video and Xu Jingjun, executive Vice President, participated in the livestreaming activities.

Cao Xuetao said that although many alumni could not return to Nankai University during the epidemic, our hearts are always together. Nankai University is at its critical stage of compiling the 14th five-year plan and advancing the double first-class construction. The ideas and suggestions of alumni are particularly important to the smooth development of the university. All alumni are expected to actively participate in drawing the blueprint of Nankai University in the new century! Teachers recalled the days when they got along with students in Nankai University 30 years ago and congratulated the alumni for their achievements in all walks of life.

In the livestreaming room, Xu Jingjun said: I look forward to meeting you in Nankai University after the epidemic. Thank you for your support! I welcome all of you to come visit home often!

Fifteen representatives of the alumni of the 1990 class talked about their youthful times in the midst of the laughter in the broadcast room, focusing on such topics as  the story behind old photos, What are your unforgettable impressions of Nankai, If you go back 30 years ago, what would you say to yourself at that time, etc.

Some alumni joined this event via video connection. After the outbreak of COVID-19, Kunlun Group, chaired by Zhou Da, a senior trustee of Nankai University, set up a special relief fund to support the prevention and control of the epidemic. During the video connection, Zhou Da said: I am proud to be a member of Nankai University! Nankai's spirit has nurtured me. We should uphold the school motto and serve society!

During the epidemic, shareholders and their family members of Wuhan Shengfan Electronics Co., Ltd., chaired by Li Zhongze, chairman of Hubei Alumni Association of Nankai University, collected 1.2 million yuan to donate goods and materials to society. At the beginning of the epidemic, we issued a call to help medical workers in Wuhan through various channels. We must always have our ideals and never give up! Li said.

Advocated by its alumni, Nankai University released the construction plan of  Zhou Enlai Lecture Hall in Nankai’s Centenary  in December, 2016. Since the launch of the project, more than 20,000 teachers, students and alumni have enthusiastically participated in the construction and donation to the building funds of the lecture hall, making it a university building with the largest number of participants in crowdfunding in China.

During this year’s anniversary celebration, the university sincerely invited teachers, students, alumni and people from all walks of life to participate in the donation to the building funds of the lecture hall, and launched the 1 Yuan auction activity.
