2020-10-23

The 28th ACM International Multimedia Conference (ACM MM) was held online from October 12 to 16. Liang Hongru, a 2015 Ph.D. student from the College of Computer Science of Nankai Univeristy, won the Best Paper Award as the first author of the paper PiRhDy: Learning Pitch-, Rhythm-, and Dynamics-aware Embeddings for Symbolic Music. It is also the first Best Paper Award won by Nankai University on Class A Conference recommended by the China Computer Society.

Recognized as one of the world's top conferences on multimedia, ACM MM is listed by the Chinese Computer Society as Class A. The 2020 ACM MM is jointly organized by the University of Perugia in Italy, the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Alibaba, the first Chinese company authorized to host ACM MM. Because of the pandemic, the conference was held completely online, during which 1,698 articles were collected altogether, including 472 papers related to all important research fields of multimedia technology, such as multimedia deep learning, multimedia application, emotional and social signal, multimedia interpretation, etc. Among all these papers, Liang Hongru's work was selected as the only best paper.

The list of International Academic Conferences recommended by the China Computer Society is formulated by domestic and foreign experts, according to the characteristics of computer disciplines and the influence of international academic conferences. The list is divided into three categories: Class A, B, and C. As the latest advances in computer science are often published on these top conferences first, the publications of papers on Class A conferences in Computer Science and Technology and Software Engineering are listed separately by the Ministry of Education to evaluate the discipline activity in related international frontiers.
