Intelligent Network Security Research Center Unveiled at Nankai University

On October 31, the opening ceremony of Intelligent Network Security Research Center of the Institute for Development Strategy of China’s New-Generation Artificial Intelligence and the Intelligent Network Security Forum were held at Nankai University. Li Yuxiao, General Secretary of the Cyber Security Association of China, Xu Jingjun, Executive Vice President of Nankai University, and Xu Binyan, Deputy Director of Tianjin Municipal Office of the Cyberspace Affairs Commission of attended the event. Gong Ke, Executive Dean of the Intelligent Network Security Research Center of Development Strategy of China's New-Generation Artificial Intelligence Institute, chaired the meeting.


During the meeting, Li Yuxiao, Xu Jingjun, Gong Ke, and Xu Binyan jointly held the unveiling ceremony.

Xu Jingjun, on behalf of Nankai University, welcomed the leaders and experts, and pointed out that the establishment of the Intelligent Network Security Research Center of the Institute for Development Strategy of China’s New-Generation Artificial Intelligence with its strategic research in cutting-edge fields will effectively promote the cluster development of related disciplines. Li Yuxiao put forward that it is necessary to strengthen the judgment and prevention of potential risks in the development of AI, in order to safeguard the interests of the people and to strengthen national security for the safety, reliability and control of AI. Xu Binyan believes that this opening marks a new phase of strategic collaboration between Tianjin Municipal Office of the Cyberspace Affairs Commission, the Institute and the Cybersecurity Association of China, adding that it will provide another high-end think tank platform for prospective research on “Artificial Intelligence + Cybersecurity” of Tianjin.


During the meeting, it was also held an appointment ceremony for the Director of the Intelligent Network Security Research Center. Liu Zheli, associate professor at the College of Cyber Science of Nankai University, was hired as the first director, and Gong Ke issued a letter of appointment to him on behalf of the academic committee of the Institute.

It is understood that these three signed a strategic cooperation agreement in early 2020 to integrate their respective advantages so that to carry out pragmatic cooperation around Artificial Intelligence + CyberSecurity, with this opening as an important measure for the implementation of the agreement. Relying on the College of Cyber Science of Nankai University, the center will introduce experts from the Cybersecurity Association of China, the Institute for Development Strategy of China's New-Generation Artificial Intelligence and the policies of the Tianjin Municipal Office of the Cyberspace Affairs Commission to attract figures in top universities and industry at home and abroad to build an international think tank for intelligent network security and a team of first-class experts in network security at Nankai University. After completion, it will give full play to the comprehensive advantages of Nankai University with the support of professional teams, such as law and management, to actively attract domestic experts in network governance, laws and regulations, and to further establish and improve the research on relevant safety management laws and regulations, management policies and standards and norms. Combined with the construction of the artificial intelligence security alliance, the center will focus on national urgent needs and social hot spots, and through regular academic conferences, theme forums and seminars, it will build an academic interactive platform, industry consulting and industry-university cooperation platform to promote the development of Nankai University's network security and related disciplines.
