6th Sino-European Life Science Forum Held at Nankai University

On November 19th, the 6th Sino-European Life Science Forum was held in Chern Hall of Nankai University with the theme “Communication, Innovation, Cooperation and Win-win result. Participants attended this forum online and offlineincluding President Rao Zihe of Tianjin Science and Technology Association, President Zhang Boli of Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Vice President Chen Jun of Nankai University, Secretary of the Leading Party Members' Group Lu Weimin of Tianjin Science and Technology Association, Chancellor Yao Zhi of Tianjin Medical University as well as relative officers of Tianjin Municipal government, experts, scholars and representatives of teachers and students in the field of life science. This forum also set up branch venues in Tianjin University and Tianjin Medical University.



Before the conference, Chen Jun met representatives of attendees and extended a warm welcome for their coming to Nankai, looking forward to them to visiting frequently Nankai in order to share cutting-edged scientific knowledge and academic fruits. 

At the opening ceremony, Mr. Zhang Sen, Deputy general director of the Department of International Affairs of China Association for Science and Technology said that the Sino-European Life Science Forum has been successfully held for five years, and this forum is an important platform for the building of a community with a shared future for humanity, which is of great significance for the fight against the Covid-19.

He Yi, President of the Sino-European Life Science Coalition said that focusing on the prevention and control of the Covid-19, this forum will make contributions to China and the rest of the world. He also hoped that experts and scholars attending this forum could have active communications and create wonderful ideas.

On behalf of the Tianjin Science and Technology Association, Rao Zihe expressed his congratulations to the holding of this forum. He also pointed out that life science has played an essential role in fighting against the pandemic, and the exchanges and cooperation between Chinese and European scientists will facilitate the application of science in the battle against the Covid-19.

The opening ceremony was followed by speeches with the theme of the Prevention and Treatment Technology of the COVID-19. In his report From SARS in 2003 to the COVID-19 in 2020, Rao Zihe reviewed the 2003 SARS outbreak and said that his research team participated in the initial R&D of the COVID-19 inactivated vaccines and released the first clinical research of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Alexander Kekulé, in his report Balance the Freedom and Safety in the Intervention of the Covid-19, detailed Europes deficiencies in the prevention and control of Covid-19 and related reasons. He also pointed out that Chinas experience against the virus has provided great wisdom for Germany to defeat the pandemic.



Zhang Boli introduced the internal structure of the novel coronavirus and summarized the characteristics and rules of clinic efficacy of traditional Chinese medicine in his report the Prevention and Treatment of the Covid-19 with Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Gao Hui, in his presentation titledthe Status and Development of the Detection Technology of the Covid-19”, introduced the detection technology of the Covid-19 and pointed out that there are many methods for its detection.

Shen Chunlin, in his report the Virus Carrier Technology Platform and Its Application in the development of the Covid-19 Vaccine, said that as an alumnus of Nankai, he has over 30 years of R&D experience in the field of biotechnology and once participated in the building of molecular biology labs of several institutions at home and aboard. His company has followed the international standard in the R&D of the Covid-19 vaccine.



This forum also had branch venues, project roadshows and others. In this forum, Chinese and European researchers exchanged their ideas through online tools and discussed how to prevent and treat the coronavirus, ushering in a new chapter in the China-European communication and cooperation in the field of life science.

According to the information, the Sino-European Life Science Forum is a high-level communication platform for Chinese and European experts, scholars and entrepreneurs of life science. It is jointly organized by FCPAE and the Department of International Affairs of CAST. It aims to inspire new discoveries in the field of life science between China and Europe, and promote substantive cooperation between Chinese and European enterprises. Since 2015, the Sino-European Life Science Forum has been held for five consecutive years.
