In the class of Haihe Middle School, several girls from Nankai University demonstrated the firing process of blue and white porcelain. On the big screen, a fired porcelain vase was displayed with great liveliness, with smooth contours and bright colors of blue and white.

The middle school students under the podium stared at the screen and watched the ancient ceramic virtual simulation course. After the demonstration, the students flocked to the podium to operate the computer themselves, experiencing the porcelain firing process.

What was displayed in the class was the project of Ancient Ceramics Culture in Campus Based on Virtual Simulation Technology which was promoted with great effort by teachers and students majoring in Cultural Relics and Museology of Nankai University. The project team members are consisted of females ---- the faculty advisor, associate professor Zhang Jingwen and 6 students. They also selected Nanyou Jiayu from The Book of Songs· Xiaoya as the name of the project team, which represents a happy, hardworking and entrepreneurial atmosphere among team members.

Based on VR (virtual simulation) technology, we have developed ceramic relics classes that can be seen, heard and even touched. At present, our courses are displayed in primary and secondary schoolsand libraries, and the response has been very good. According to Gao Yuna, who is in charge of the project and a graduate student of the Department of Archaeology and Museum Studies, the product adopts a combination of online and offline models, including online learning software, as well as offline basic courses, experience activities, teacher training and other supporting projects, as well as various forms of activities realized by innovating and enriching our excellent traditional culture into campus. The original intention of the project design is to spread the knowledge of cultural relics in the basic courses and equip children with the rudimentary ability to appreciate cultural relics; the virtual courses provide an immersive experience in order to feel the porcelain firing and drawing experience, and even hold the cultural relics in ones hands to observe, at zero distance the national treasures .

This project is by no means just a whim of the The Nanyou Jiayu team. As teachers and students in the faculty of Cultural Relics and Museology, they discovered that there are 42.239 million sets of cultural relics in Chinese museums, while less than 5% of them are on display; on the other hand, due to the uneven educational resources of museums, hundreds of millions of students from small and medium-sized towns and rural areas have never had the opportunity to enter the museums. Can the big school quality of the museum benefit more children? This question has been lingering in the minds of teachers and students of Nanyou Jiayu.

In the research of professional knowledge and discussions among team members, the team thought of using virtual simulation technology to send cultural relics and supporting development courses to areas where museum resources are insufficient and underdeveloped to do an in-depth study of cultural relics. Thus starting in 2018, Zhang led the students to start the ceramic theme course design, and carried out experimental teaching attempts in universities, middle schools, primary schools and libraries. While she served students and citizens in need, she also was collecting experimental data and improving the course continuously. On the International Museum Day in 2018, the Nanyou Jiayu team appeared in activities of public education of the Nankai University Museum, which was broadcast live on CCTV, in which the number of viewers reached 88,000. “In the next step, we hope to cooperate with the Nankai Bookstore, our school’s postgraduate teaching team, etc., to serve more primary and middle school students. We hope that our virtual simulation ceramic culture course can make 'china' come alive and Chinese culture become more popular.” Zhang has always had a dream in her heart, that is to let cultural relics come from ancient history and bloom the splendid flowers of civilization in the vivid era.
