On December 11, the commencement of 2020 Internships and Employment Training Camp for International Organizations of Nankai University was held at its Balitai campus. Professor Gong Ke, the President of World Federation of Engineering Organizations, the executive director of the Research Institute of China’s Next Generation Artificial Intelligence, and the former President of Nankai University, was invited to give a keynote lecture, sharing his working experience and feelings in international organizations with more than 100 students face to face.
With “ The Missions of Youths in the Major Country, China —— on Cultivating the Elites for International Organizations” as the theme of his lecture, Professor Gong Ke started with his insights about working experience in international organizations. After introducing the types, status and functions of international organizations, he put forward the following six requirements for the elites. First, a clear understanding of the global landscape. Second, a good exercise of our voice in the international community. Third, serving the members of their organizations. Fourth, to fully respect the rules of organizations. Fifth, to demonstrate persistence. Sixth, contributions in terms of capacity.
Professor Gong Ke encouraged the students to stick to the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind, have a good knowledge of international rules, and abide by the code of ethics based on their understanding of the global trends. Moreover, he expressed his hope that the students should draw inspiration from the former Premier Zhou Enlai, the most outstanding diplomat in China, so as to turn themselves into international elites with a good grasp of the basic conditions of both China and other countries as well as world affairs.
During the commencement, Professor Gong Ke presented the instructor of the Training Camp for International Organizations with letters of appointment and directors of relevant departments awarded the outstanding participants with certificates. Professors and students present at the commencement exchanged their views on issues concerning internships and employment in international organizations.
