Sci-Tech Culture Week: Experiencing Sci-Tech Charm and Creating Innovative Environments

2020-12-22

On December 13, the 3rd Sci-Tech Culture Week of Nankai University and the “Science and Technology Presentation” were held in the general education hall in Jinnan Campus of Nankai University with the theme of inheriting the fine learning style of Nankai University and dedicating to scientific research to serve the nation.

Following the ideas of “providing learning methods, appreciating the charm of sci-tech and exploring the youths’ potential”, this activity not only pays a lot of attention to the practical applications of the knowledge acquired through the traditional classroom teaching (“the first classroom”), but also emphasizes the theoretical knowledge in the sci-tech innovation practice conducted in the extended teaching activities (“the second classroom”).

In the sci-tech interaction experience area, students can watch and actually interact with smart cars, can appreciate the beauty of the audio spectrum, use VR equipment to feel the fantasy of the virtual world, experience holographic projection, observe the 3D printing process and other interesting sci-tech projects. In addition, there is a Sci-tech Knowledge Quiz session, and exquisite gifts for the students.

One of the participants Du Haoquan, a 2020-class freshman from the College of Electronic Information and Optical Engineering, said, This event gave us a better understanding of how can we apply in practice the knowledge acquired in our major, letting us make a clearer purpose setting the goals for what to learn in the first classroom. It will keep us more motivated in our professional studies.”

Da Yixin, an undergraduate student of the School of Computer Science and Technology, said The 'Science and Technology Presentation' event gives our sci-tech club a better platform to showcase and form influence among students, drawing students' attention to sci-tech itself and sci-tech clubs. This is a great opportunity for communication, and I hope more of these activities can be held.

Ma Linchuan, instructor of 3D Printing Association and teacher of the College of Electronic Information and Optical Engineering, initiated on-site teaching practice, demonstrating 3D printing operation and related principles for students. She said that 3D printing is a cutting-edge science and technology, which can relate other disciplines to create new inventions. Here, we can “create” new work by ourselves, and we also welcome students to join our '3D printing and application' classroom.

The person in charge of the College of Electronic Information and Optical Engineering also commented that, through the sharing of scientific research achievements and experience of scientific and creative products, Science and Technology Presentation, as a bridge between the first and second classroom, aims to let students understand the practical application of professional study, feel the charm of sci-tech and scientific innovation, and encourage young students to dedicate to scientific research to serve the nation.
