Boling Intelligence Academy of Nankai University opens to Cultivate Interdisciplinary and Innovative Talents

Boling Intelligence Academy of Nankai University held its opening ceremony on December 17th both online and offline. As an exploration of the new type intelligence academy, it is led by the School of Physics with the six co-founders, including the School of Mathematics Science, the College of Chemistry, the College of Life Sciences, the School of Economics and the Faculty of History of Nankai University. The academy invited more than ten professors to formulate training programs for excellent students and to give them interdisciplinary guidance. In this way, a community of teachers and students can be built in the academy, where every student has access to a face-to-face communication with famous professors and outstanding students with different academic backgrounds.

Li Jing, Vice President of Nankai University, attended the opening ceremony. In his speech, he hoped that with the concerted efforts of teachers and students, the academy can form a good academic atmosphere, giving impetus to educational reform in ways that make new breakthrough in the development of innovative talents with various academic backgrounds.

Zhang Guoquan, President of Boling Intelligence Academy and of the School of Physics, Professor Liu Yubing, the representative mentor of the academy as well as official of the Department of Student Affairs, introduced the building of the academy and reviewed the history of Bolin College and the plan for top students in basic disciplines. They urged teachers and students to strengthen online and offline communication in order to harvest knowledge and gain wisdom for common progress.

During the opening ceremony, an inaugural appointment was held for the mentors. The mentors’ team of “Bolin Intelligence Academy” formed by 13 professors from six colleges will be in charge of the orderly operation of teaching activities together with the leaders and the staff of the academy.

Yang Yuefeng, a representative undergraduate of 2020 from the School of Economics, expressed his expectation for the future research activities of academics. He said that although disciplines have different focus, every subject is born from our society, our technology and our daily life in terms of their essence. Hence breakthroughs tend to be made in cross-discipline fields.

After the opening ceremony, teachers and students had their meeting in groups to discuss specific details concerning the development of the academy.
