On December 25, Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Nankai University, jointly established by Nankai University and Tianjin Central Hospital of Gynecology Obstetrics, was officially inaugurated.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by many experts, scholars and guests including the President of Nankai University Cao Xuetao, the Executive Deputy Director of Peking University Health Science Center Qiao Jie, the President of the Institute of Public Health of Nankai University Xu Jianguo, the Director of Beijing National Engineering Research Center for Biochips Cheng Jing, the Double employed Academician of Nankai University Zhang Yingze, Chancellor Yao Zhi of Tianjin Medical University, Party Committee Member Zu Yanhui of Tianjin Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, Deputy Director Du Hongyin of Tianjin Health Commission, President Zhu Siwei of Institute of Translational Medicine, President Chen Xu of the Affiliated Maternal Hospital of Nankai University and other representatives. Zhang Boli, President of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Tianjin University and the laureate of National Honorary Title “The People's Hero”, sent a congratulatory video to the conference. The inauguration ceremony was hosted by Chen Jun, Vice President of Nankai University.

Cao Xuetao, Qiao Jie, Zhang Yingze and Chen Xu jointly inaugurated the institute.

Chen Xu was appointed as president of the Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Nankai University and Qiao Jie as director of the Academic Committee of the Institute. Cao Xuetao respectively presented appointment letters to Chen Xu and Qiao Jie.

The Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Nankai University aims to give full play to the advantages of disciplines and scientific research of Nankai University and to the medical resources of Tianjin Central Hospital of Gynecology Obstetrics. It focuses on three major fields including biological treatment of gynecology and obstetrics, the full life cycle development and health of women and the reproductive regulation to carry out joint scientific research and build a systematic scientific research system in obstetrics and gynecology.

The institute will promote integration between obstetrics and gynecology and other disciplines; it will gradually set up four sci-tech R&D and transformation platforms, including the Medical Artificial Intelligence Research Center, the Precision Medicine Research Center, the Clinical Medicine Evaluation Center and the Frontier & Basic Innovation and Translational Medicine Center.

In his speech, Cao Xuetao said that guided by the 14th Five-Year Plan, Nankai University is committed to launching a new journey for the development of medical disciplines in a high-level comprehensive university. Strengthening cooperation with Tianjin Central Hospital of Gynecology Obstetrics and other high-level medical institutions is an important strategic initiative of Nankai University to accelerate the implementation of the“4211 Action Plan for Excellent Nankai” and the “Biomedical Development” strategy. The establishment of the Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Nankai University is a new starting point for the cooperation between Nankai University and Tianjin Central Hospital of Gynecology Obstetrics.

Qiao Jie expressed his hope that the Institute will play a regional medical role from a higher position, building a “highland” for clinical medicine and translational research and creating more brilliant feats in the future development.

Chen Xu said “we will continue to cooperate with Nankai University, to accelerate the clinical transformation of medical science and technology, and to make due contribution to the development of obstetrics and gynecology in Tianjin, so as to increase the sense of access to women's and children's health.

In the high-level forum of medicine after the inauguration ceremony, Qiao Jie presented a report with the theme “Exploring a new model of discipline development with the platform of national clinical medical research center”.

Cheng Jing gave a presentation on the theme “Promoting technology transformation and ensuring the safety of maternity and infant”.

Xu Jianguo brought a topic on the “New understanding of novel coronavirus: trends and challenges”.

Chen Jun spoke on “The key points for the application of the National Natural Science Foundation of China”.

Established in 1952, the Tianjin Central Hospital of Gynecology Obstetrics was the first specialized hospital for obstetrics and gynecology after the founding of the New China. The hospital have established a long-term cooperation with Nankai University on medical treatment, education and scientific research; there, it has been undertaken the teaching of fetal medicine and gynecological reproductive endocrinology courses for master students of the School of Medicine of Nankai University and the training of students with professional master's degree. Over the years, Nankai University and Tianjin Central Obstetrics Gynecology Hospital have cooperated in many aspects around gynecological and obstetrical diseases.
