The list of Nankai University’s Students of the Year 2020 has been revealed! Ten students (including teams), after application and college and department recommendations, were selected from undergraduate, master’s and doctoral students of the whole university. National Flag Guard Training Team

Loyalty, discipline, responsibility, duty

Honors and experience: Faced with the test of the Covid-19 epidemic, they accepted the order to protect at a critical and difficult moment. They gave up their holiday and returned to campus early for training. They all passed the military training instructor qualification test and became qualified instructors. In the military training for freshmen of the year 2020, they were not afraid of difficulties, successfully completed the military training tasks, and finished the training of the mandatory contents formulated in the new syllabus, which earned them the unanimous praise of all teachers, students and the community. Half of the team were awarded the title of “Excellent Instructor” for the military training of 2020 students. The team was awarded the honorary title of “Military Training Instructor, ‘Gongneng’ Pioneer, the first prize of Tianjin University National Flag Guard Presentation Competition, and the Winning Unit of “Men’s Light Weapons Shooting” of Tianjin University Military Training Camp.

Guyuan Tian

Honors and experience: Guyuan Tian has a record of excellent academic performance, likes to think independently, and has excellent comprehensive application ability. Combined with what he has learned in his major, he records the world with through film, conveys sincerity and moving moments, and is an excellent representative among college students.

He founded the Soling Culture Communication Company, and his representative work “North Korea World” won the Best Documentary at the Vancouver Chinese International Film Festival and was screened at film festivals in 6 countries, with nearly 1 million online views and 88% positive feedback. He also measured the world with his feet, and his travel variety show “Footnotes from Far Away” was filmed in 7 countries and widely publicized by the media. He ranked first in his major, and received honorary awards including two national scholarships, Tianjin Outstanding Student, the Zhou Enlai Scholarship Nomination Award, the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Scholarship, etc.

Yawen Zhang

Interpreting “Gongneng” with youth and faith in Nankai

Honors and experience: As the only doctoral student in the first batch of the Nankai University volunteer translation team, Yawen Zhang went to the airport four times and successfully completed the task of securing the flow of diplomatic flights. She participated in public service tutoring activities and volunteered to tutor two students, including a front-line medical worker’s child, and worked a total of 130 hours. As the head of the Doctoral Lecturer Group, she led the group to launch a national joint lectureship with Tsinghua University and other university lectureship groups, reaching tens of thousands of students nationwide. Yawen Zhang also represented Nankai University in the National Youth League Cadre Cloud Chorus, which was reported on by more than 40 media outlets, spreading the spirit of the anti-epidemic fight with the voice of youth.

She has received honorary awards such as the 2019 Star of Self-improvement of Chinese College Students, Tianjin Outstanding Student, the Lixin Tang Scholarship, and the Zhou Enlai Scholarship Nomination Award.

Hao Cui

Master, Surgery, School of Medicine, 2019

Serving the people as a good doctor

Honors and experience: As a medical student, Hao Cui takes root in the clinic and enthusiastically serves patients. As the first and second assistant, he has participated in nearly 200 cases of radical surgery for malignant tumors of the gastrointestinal tract and received banners and accolades many times. During the Covid-19 epidemic, he volunteered to participate in an emergency surgery for suspected cases of Covid-19 under tertiary protection. As a member of the Communist Party, he led his Party branch to be awarded as the “Model of the May Fourth Red Flag Party Branch” of Nankai University and the “Advanced Party Branch” of Nankai University, and he was awarded the distinction of the excellent Communist Party member of Nankai University. He is actively involved in social practice, and as the team leader, he led the team to be awarded the “Tianjin Summer Social Practice Excellent Team”.

Hao Cui takes academic research seriously, and has been awarded the first prize of the Gongneng Scholarship of Nankai University for Graduate Students, the Top 10 Medical Students of Nankai University, and the first prize of the National Basic Experiment Design Competition for College Students.

Tianhao Wang

Telling Nankai’s patriotic stories to more and more people

Honors and experience: Tianhao Wang is currently the head of Nankai University Students’ Yonghuai Spirit Lecturer Group, a key member of Nankai University “Cheng Cai Bao Guo” Youth Lecturer Group, and a member of the Tianjin Youth Lecturer Group. He has won 8 national honors, 8 provincial and municipal honors, and more than 40 university-level honors.

He has participated in the activities of three Nankai University social practice bases, two Nankai Reading Rooms, more than 20 cities, tens of volunteering service stints and has written hundreds of thousands of reports. Influenced by the Nankai spirit, Tianhao Wang has traveled all over the country to participate in volunteer service. In September 2018, he founded the Nankai University Students’ Yonghuai Spirit Lecturer Group, leading members to give lectures more than 60 times, accessing 35,000 people. He has taken up a post in Guo Yonghuai’s Deeds Exhibition Hall, led teams to his hometown, study and work place, Qinghai Atomic City and other places for research, organized exchanges and group learning with the Two Bombs, One Satellite Spirit Lecturer Group, Guo Yonghuai's Deeds Lecturer Group and other lectureship groups, and has strived to tell the stories to more and more people.

Jinyu Hu

Honors and experience: Jinyu Hu is known for his courage and innovation. He continues to cultivate himself on the way to innovation, entrepreneurship and success.

He and his team are committed to exploring the use of blockchain technology to innovate fintech business models. He won the first gold for the university in the national competition of Internet+ Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition. With his fellows and teachers, he founded the Nankai Finance Career Development Center, which widely serves the career development of students majoring in business and finance. As class monitor, he led the class to establish the 10^th Zhou Enlai class. He is also a volunteer in the anti-epidemic battle, Excellent Youth League Model Member, and Head of Nankai University’s Speech Group, a May Fourth Red Flag Model Group. He sharpened himself in innovation and entrepreneurship, and served Nankai in practice. 

Hui Wang

Honors and experience: Hui Wang is one of the top students in her major and has been to Shanghai, Jiaxing, Nanchang and other places to practice and learn. She has been to Tibet to teach voluntarily for one year, achieving the reversal of her teaching performance from the bottom to the top of the grade, and has actively participated in many volunteering activities to help the poor and the wise. During the epidemic, she was the first to participate in the public service tutoring activities, and became the main speaker of the public class of politics, with a total of more than 600 minutes of teaching and communication and more than 110 people listening to the class, and her deeds were widely publicized by the media.

As the class monitor, Hui Wang led the class to be awarded as the Advanced Collective Model of Nankai University, and served teachers and students in various student work with sincerity and dedication. Bo Liu

Honors and experience: Bo Liu has served as a member of the Presidium of the Student Union of the University and the President of the Student Union of the College. He has been awarded many honors such as the Star of Self-Improvement of Chinese College Students, Excellent Student Cadre of Tianjin, Excellent Youth League Model Member of Nankai University, Excellent Youth League Cadre Pioneer of Nankai University and Top Ten Volunteers of Nankai University.

As a party member, he has strong ideals and has taken the initiative to enroll in the 13th Young Marxist Training Project of Nankai University. He has been to four provinces and six counties to carry out seven study and practice activities, and has won four national social practice awards, such as the National Top 100 Practice Teams and the Top 10 Teams of National Students’ Belt and Road Special Summer Social Practice.

He ranks first in his major in three years of comprehensive grades, won several awards including the National Scholarship and the Lixin Tang Scholarship, published one SCI Zone II paper and one EI paper, and was guaranteed to study in the Department of Electronic Engineering of Tsinghua University.

Qinglei Yue

Honors and experience: Qinglei Yue has always sought truth and reason, and cultivated the ambition of scientific research to serve his country. During his study, he published 4 papers, one of which was included in CSSCI journal, 2 reports which entered the internal preference of People’s Daily and Guangming Daily, and the “White Paper on Property City (2020)”, which was supported by the government of Hengqin New District of Zhuhai, has been released and published.

During the epidemic, he devoted himself to the prevention and control of the epidemic in rural areas for 12 days, and participated in writing two research reports and submitted them to the Ministry of Publicity, and his research team became one of the top 15 in the country in the “Research China” program and awarded the accolade of excellent project in the social practice of Nankai University. He has served as a peer tutor of the college and a member in charge of publicity of the Party branch, organizing more than 100 activities and serving more than 8,000 people. He has won the National Scholarship four times in a row, and was honored as Tianjin Outstanding Student, Excellent Party Member of Nankai University, Model of Excellent Youth League Cadres, and Merit Student of Nankai University.

Xianwei Lu

Honors and experience: As a student of Professor Zhongyong Yuan, Xianwei Lu studies in the field of innovative design and mechanism research of new energy catalytic materials, covering many cutting-edge technologies such as electrolytic water decomposition, metal-air batteries, supercapacitors and solar photovoltaic panels energy conversion devices.

Up to now, he has published 19 SCI papers (including 12 as first author) in international high-level journals, including 13 Zone I SCI papers (6 high level papers with impact factor more than 10), the cumulative impact factor of his works (as first author) is 99.62, and the total citations are more than 120. He participated in one National Natural Science Foundation of China, and presided over one Nankai University “Charming Materials” Doctoral Student Research Innovation Program. With excellent scores, he has received many awards, such as the Zhou Enlai Scholarship Nomination Award, Nankai Top Ten Talents, National Scholarship, Baosteel Outstanding Student Special Award, the first prize of Gongneng Scholarship of Nankai University and National Inspirational Scholarship.
