A few days ago, the Ministry of Education released a  list of undergraduate programs selected from all universities, which will participate in the construction plan of first-class teaching points on a national and provincial level for Bachelor’s degrees. Twenty-one undergraduate programs of Nankai University have been added into the national construction plan, while one has been listed on the provincial plan.  

Public Finance, Financial Engineering, Sociology, Marxist Theory, Japanese, Cultural Heritage and Museology, Information and Computing Science, Applied Physics, Molecular Science and Engineering, Biotechnology, Opto-Electronics Information Science and Engineering, Automation, Computer Science and Technology, Software Engineering

Information Security, Environmental Engineering, Clinical Medicine, Accounting, Public Administration, Library and Information Science, Convention-Exhibition Economy and Administration have all been recognized as national first-class undergraduate programs, while Electronic Information Science and Technology has been recognized on  the provincial level.  

The Ministry of Education conducted the construction plan of first-class undergraduate programs in 2019, which is to promote, by the end of 2021, ten-thousand undergraduate programs teaching points from all national universities as the country’s first-class teaching points and another ten-thousand will serve on the provincial level. The plan is to follow the spirit of the national education conference, the national working conference for advanced undergraduate education, ‘Opinions of the Ministry of Education on Improving Advanced Undergraduate Education and the Comprehensive Ability to Cultivate Talents’, and the Plans (Version 2.0) on fostering talents in six fields and distinguished students in basic subjects. It aims to increase the rigor of undergraduate education in all aspects, improve the overall capacity of universities in fostering talents, as well as realize the in-depth development of higher education.

As the twenty-one majors are being recognized, a total of forty-two programs in Nankai University have been added as the national first-class teaching points for undergraduate programs as of now. Following the guide of the ‘Nankai University Action Plan for Improving the Quality of First-class Undergraduate Education (2019-2021)’, Nankai will make consistent efforts to improve the professional education concerning aspects such as optimizing professional education, lifting the level of professions and playing the leading role as a demonstration to others, so as to build a first-class undergraduate education and teaching system with Nankai characteristics to further improve the quality of talent training.
