On March 2, the Ministry of Education held the 8th High School Scientific Research Outstanding Achievement (Humanities and Social Science) Awarding Ceremony to comprehensively deploy the new development stage and to promote the high-quality development of philosophy and social sciences in colleges and universities. Chen Baosheng, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group of the Ministry of Education as well as Minister and Leader of the Philosophy and Social Sciences Work Leading Group attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Weng Tiehui, member of the Party Leader Group of the Ministry, Vice Minister, and Deputy Leader of the Philosophy and Social Sciences Work Leading Group, presided over the ceremony.

Nankai University set up a branch venue on the Jinnan campus. Yang Qingshan, Secretary of the CPC Nankai University Committee, Chen Jun and Wang Xinsheng, vice presidents, Liang Qi, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Nankai University Committee, as well as awardees of our university, and heads of relevant departments and colleges attended the ceremony.

Chen emphasized that the social science community of universities should work hard, forge ahead, and jointly write the strive pen for the high-quality development of philosophy and social sciences in universities in the new development stage. There will be five demonstration courses, including the compulsory courses for political construction, the ideological and political courses to foster character and civic virtue, the logic courses for research and interpretation, the cultural courses for creativity and innovation, and the classes for fashion. We should practice internal skills in such aspects as moral class, and give full play to the main force of philosophy and social sciences in colleges and universities.

At the ceremony, Chen presented awards to the winners, who were from Peking University, Beijing Normal University, Fudan University and Wuhan University. The award-winning representatives had also a conversation with the responsible comrades of the People's Government of Jiangsu Province and Renmin University of China.

In the list of awards for the 8th High School Scientific Research Outstanding Achievement Award (Humanities and Social Sciences) announced by the Ministry of Education, Nankai University has a total of 31 awards, ranking among the top universities in the country.

The University Scientific Research Outstanding Achievement Award (Humanities and Social Sciences) (before 2008 known as the Chinese University Humanities and Social Science Research Outstanding Achievement Award) was established in 1995, for the Ministry of Education to commend and reward humanities and social sciences’ workers in universities for their outstanding achievements, to encourage university researchers to rigorously pursue academic studies, be brave to innovate, create high-quality products, and promote the prosperity and development of university philosophy and social sciences. The award is currently the highest award in the field of philosophy and social sciences for the universities in our country; it is selected every three years, with a strict organization and fair procedures. The award-winning results have high credibility and influence. It is announced that the 8th Higher School Scientific Research Outstanding Achievement Awards produced a total of 1539 awards (including awards from Hong Kong and Macao universities). Among them: 1241 papers awards, including 152 first prizes, 783 second prizes and 306 third prizes; 77 consulting service report awards, including 10 first prizes, 47 second prizes and third prizes 20; 20 popular reading awards; 201 youth achievement awards.
