March 5, 2021, 58^th celebration of the “Learn from Lei Feng Day”. On this day, many colleges and schools in Nankai University carried out voluntary activities to inherit Lei Feng’s spirit.

On Lei Feng Day, the School of Literature and its Youth Volunteer Association offered care service and convenience for the elderly in the local communities. The School will carry out more activities during the Lei Feng Month, including tree planting for environment protection, public classes, etc.

Volunteers from the College of Foreign Languages assisted the security guards in temperature and health codes checking, helped teachers in organizing and cleaning, and ensured the smooth running of teaching activities. In addition, the college set up “Lei Feng sentries”, with the responsibility of maintaining a favorable environment for teaching and studying.   

The College of Tourism and Service Management has played an active part in volunteering. There were some students who offered voluntary service and contributed to the patriotic education campaign in the Pingjin campaign memorial hall, students who volunteered to cooperate with the Jinnan District holding various activities of learning from Lei Feng, students who participated in arranging books in the college library, as well as students who were involved in the Covid-19 prevention and control in the communities. The enthusiasm that the students showed was impressive.

In the School of Materials Science and Engineering, students from Double First-Class Program gave online lessons to the third-grade students of Tianping Primary School in the Zhuanglang County. Divided in groups, students from Double First-Class Program gave lessons on the Party and its history, the history of Nankai University, Lei Feng spirit and a glimpse of scientific research. It helped the students of Tianping Primary School to understand the 100-year history of our party, the Lei Feng spirit, the character of Nankai and to improve their awareness of scientific research as a career. To encourage students to volunteer, the School also called for actions such as taking the course of learning from Lei Feng and helping cleaning the labs.

Wearing white lab coats, all the party members and the Youth League members of the College of Life Sciences cleaned the labs, the public areas and the computer rooms in the four buildings of their college, creating a good experimental condition and learning environment for teachers and students.

The College of Environmental Science and Engineering organized labor activities of Learning from Lei Feng among their college students. Students actively engaged in the clean-up of the labs, including all the floors, countertops, instruments and garbage, for a better environment for research experiments. Besides, the undergraduate students helped readjusted the positions of the tables, chairs and benches and cleaned the glass of the classrooms.

On the occasion of The Ear Care Day and the Learn from Lei Feng Day, the Graduate Student Association of the School of Medicine organized voluntary activities on the theme Ear Care to promote health in the community and urge residents on caring about hearing health. The students gave out delicately-made publicity materials to local residents and also gave them advice on how to protect their hearing in daily life, helping them to better understand the importance of ear care in order to prevent ear diseases and hearing impairment.

The College of Computer Science and the College of Cyber Science hosted the story sharing of serving the grassroots and organized youth volunteers to carry out environment-friendly activities. The volunteers lined up to recite the letter of appeal on Learning from Lei Feng and helping environmental protection, acting together to build a better home, and then cleaned and categorized the trash, like cigarette butts, beverage bottles and waste paper on the roadside for recycling.

It is reported that Nankai University has initiated a series of activities on learning from Lei Feng in 2021 and posted over 100 volunteering activities on the site, including charity support for education, community service, family companionship, general law publicity, environmental protection, and so on.
