The Anti-epidemic Work of Students from Nankai University was Selected for the “List of Excellent Micro-video Works about Popular Science for National Scientific Epidemic Prevention in 2020”

The Ministry of Science and Technology has announced the joint release of the “list of excellent popular micro-video works about popular science for national scientific epidemic prevention in 2020” as compiled by the Department of Foreign Intelligence Management and the Science and Communication Bureau of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

An original video, The Secret of Temperature Measuring Guns, produced by a Nankai student, was recommended by Nankai University and successfully selected. 

In 2020, the sudden COVID-19 outbreak exerted a great impact on the development of China’s economy and society as well as people’s lives. Technology has played an important role in defeating the COVID-19 outbreak. The Secret of Temperature Measuring Guns originates from the public elective course Service Learning: Physics Popularization Science Teaching Practice offered by Nankai University.  It describes how temperature measurement measures the temperature through infrared rays. From a scientific point of view, it explains how to achieve non-contact temperature measurement and how the temperature measurement gun is safe and harmless to the human body. 

This video was jointly completed by undergraduates from the College of Physical Sciences, Business and Life Sciences, under the tutelage of the instructor Chen Zongqiang, a young teacher of the College of Physical Sciences. This video won the national award after winning the first prize in the fifth Tianjin Science Micro-video Competition. 

A total of 366 micro-videos about popular science for national scientific epidemic prevention have been collected throughout the country. A total of 50 excellent works have been selected through formal review, expert review, online publicity and other procedures, including 2 works from the university.
