2021-04-14

On April 6, Nankai University's eighth season of the Morning Run for Public Welfare with the theme of Morning Run for Public Welfare, Building Dreams for the County Zhuanglang kicked off. Through the loving of taking a morning run, Nankai teachers, students and staffs are supporting the education and welfare of primary school students in Zhuanglang County of Pingliang City, Gansu Province. Nearly 300 teachers and students enthusiastically participated on the first day.

When a participant reaches 3,200 meters, a Zhuanglang primary school student supported by Nankai University will receive a book worth 20 yuan; after reaching 10,000 meters, a primary school student in Zhuanglang County will receive a schoolbag worth 60 yuan complete with stationary.

This is my second time participating in this activity, said Liu Ruochan, a 2020 undergraduate from the College of Pharmacy at Nankai University. It can not only help us exercise and develop healthy routines, but can also help those children in need. It is a very meaningful activity.

Zhang Haoyu, a 2018 undergraduate from the College of Electronic Information and Optical Engineering of Nankai University, said: I have been participating in the 'Morning Run for Public Welfare’ since my freshman year, donating several schoolbags to Zhuanglang primary school students through running, and personally delivering these schoolbags to Zhuanglang children through social practice activities. I’m glad to help them with my own actions.

This season's Morning Run for Public Welfare is supported by the Alumni Fund of Wu Jianming, a 1988 alumnus majoring in Microelectronics in the College of Electronic Information and Optical Engineering of Nankai University. Wu Jianming hopes that with the support of alumni resources, this activity can not only help primary school students in Zhuanglang County to receive better education, but can also urge Nankai students to develop healthy routines for study, work, and in their daily lives.

In the previous seven seasons of the Morning Run for Public Welfare activities, Nankai teachers and students extensively participated, with a cumulative running mileage of more than 23,000 kilometers. The social practice team of Morning Run for Public Welfare, Building Dreams for the County Zhuanglang donated four Nankai Bookstores, two Sunshine Sports Corners, more than 900 schoolbags, and over 6,000 books and dictionaries. A Morning Run for Public Welfare love-fund was also established in Nanhu Town, Zhuanglang County, Gansu Province. The Morning Run for Public Welfare project also won the National Bronze Award and Tianjin Gold Award in the Fifth China Youth Volunteer Service Project Competition in 2020.
