On May 9, The High-end Forum of the National Base for Cultivation Plan 2.0 for Top Students in History was held at Nankai University. Leaders of bases for top student cultivation from more than ten universities including Peking University, Fudan University, Sun Yat-sen University, Renmin University of China, Beijing Normal University, and Nankai University assembled at Nankai to exchange ideas on the cultivation of top-notch talents in history.
At the opening ceremony of the forum, Wang Xinsheng, Vice President of Nankai University, and Zhang Qing, Vice Director of the Teaching Steering Committee for Higher Education Majors in History of the Ministry of Education, Dean of National Institute for Advanced Humanistic Studies of Fudan University and Professor of the Department of History, delivered speeches respectively. The opening ceremony was presided over by Xie Shi, Secretary-General of the Teaching Steering Committee for Higher Education Majors in History of the Ministry of Education and Dean of the Department of History of Sun Yat-sen University.
Wang Xinsheng said that Nankai University has always attached great importance to the construction of basic subjects. In recent years, “Nankai’s 40 Rules” and the “4211 Seeking Excellence Plan” including the Revitalization Plan of Liberal Arts have been implemented successively to improve the quality of education in all aspects. At the same time, having combined features in subjects and majors of Nankai University, great efforts have been made in the innovation of education models and the improvement of the environment for fostering talents to continuously optimize the training system for top-notch students in basic subjects. History is one of the pillar disciplines of Nankai University. It is hoped that experts and scholars will provide more valuable suggestions on the three key links of selection, training and evaluation of top students. Based on these joint efforts, significant achievement will be seen in the innovation of the training model of top-notch students in fundamental subjects, and the cultivation of more potential students who pursue truth and innovation while putting into practice what they have learned.
Zhang Qing said that this forum held by Nankai University was propitiously timed and necessary as universities are currently paying attention to the cultivation of top-notch talents. He also introduced the work being carried out by the Teaching Steering Committee for Majors in History to improve the quality of talent training in history, and also explained the Chinese plan for the cultivation of top-notch talents.
Heads of Boling College, Teaching Affairs Office, and History College of Nankai University made speeches on the exploration of the top-notch talent training system, the relationship between teaching management and education reform, and the use of top-notch talents.
In 2020, in the list of the first batch of Bases for Cultivation Plan 2.0 for Top Student in Basic Subjects (2019) released by the Ministry of Education, Nankai University's Base of Top Student Cultivation in History was selected.
