2021-05-21

This January, The Council for Hospitality Management Education (CHME) have hold their first ever annual video competition at the annual Council for Hospitality Management Education (CHME) research online conference at Sheffield Hallam University with the theme title “Creating Hospitality Experience: Authenticity in an Emerging World of Hyper-Reality”. Students from all over the world were attracted to participate in the competition, and a total of ten teams submitted their video works.

Under the guidance of their professor Qiu Hanqin, the team made up of Xue Tao, Anush Minasyan (Chinese name: Qin Menglan), Du Yingying and Li Huahua, four PhD students from the College of Tourism and Service Management of Nankai University, won the award for the highly commended video. It is also noticable that this is the first time that a student group majoring in tourism management has won such an honor in China.

In the video, the group’s presentation not only improved hospitality industry graduates’ understanding and confidence in their career development, but also enabled young people to understand the advantages and life plans that they need to be aware of as hospitality professionals. With the judging criteria of creativity, originality, message content and technical organization, the CHME committee went through several rounds of reviews to evaluate the submitted works; there has also been a public voting on the global video platform YouTube to collect extra points for the final results.

Finally, all the competition winners and the teams that have been judged as highly commended were announced at the CHME Conference 12th-14th May 2021 and received a CHME certificate and it brought the honor to our PhD students’ team.

As this competition shows, the participation of this students’ team has contributed in promoting Nankai University to the whole world and in expressing students’ love and enthusiasm for their college; Nankai University also hopes that international scholars will know more about the China’s hotel and hospitality industry as well as about the College of Tourism and Service Management of Nankai University.
