The Science and Technology Week Held by Nankai University Salutes "Ever-Progressing" Life

On May 23rd, the key event of the 35th Tianjin Science and Technology Week- the 2021 Nankai University Science and Technology Week kicked off. More than 400 citizens, both adults and children, walked into Nankai campus to embrace the charm of science and technology.



The opening ceremony was held in the Lecture Hall of the Comprehensive Laboratory Building at the Balitai Campus. Li Jing, Vice President of Nankai University, and Lu Shuangying, a member of the Party Group and the Vice President of Tianjin Science and Technology Association attended the event and delivered speeches. They welcomed the citizens and students who participated in this ceremony. Later, they introduced Tianjin's vigorous efforts to promote the work of comprehensive science popularization. The significant elements of this Science and Technology Week were also given notice as efforts to further popularize scientific knowledge.



Subsequently, Professor Liu Xinqi from the College of Life Sciences of Nankai University delivered a science report. During the lecture, Starting the Body's Hard-Core and Targeted Strike- a Brief Introduction of Vaccines and Ingenious Life, he explained helpful knowledge in a simplified way, including the immune mechanism, different types, and inoculation purposes of the COVID-19 vaccines. 



On the day of the opening ceremony, the life science group activities were held in the Comprehensive Laboratory Building. With the help of Nankai teachers and students, citizens in the laboratory have carried out a series of scientific experiments, both interesting and relevant to daily life. These activities included microbial graffiti, DNA extraction from strawberries, microscopic observation of plant cells, butterfly specimen production, and flower structure analysis. Meanwhile, they also attended the popular science lecture Knowledge and Observation of Drosophila. They visited the College of Life Sciences laboratories and learned more about its research equipment. Through those unusual activities, participants learned more about the daily life of scientific researchers and were able to seize the joy and significance of scientific investigation.



The Science and Technology Week of Nankai University will be held at the two campuses of Balitai and Jinnan from May 22nd to 28th. The section Guaranteeing People's Health and Promoting a Healthy China will hold popular science lectures, and organize primary and middle school students to come visit laboratories with interactive activities. This section will also exhibit excellent popular science works, guide the public to develop health concepts, and improve scientific literacy in epidemic prevention and control. The section Focusing on the Advanced Science and Technology in the World and Serving the Country's Major Needs will center on themes such as carbon neutrality, the era of intelligence, and digital society to present innovative achievements and catalyze motivation. The youth science popularization section Arousing Interest in Exploration and Establishing Lofty Ambitions will highlight the subject characteristics and design suitable popular science activities for young people. This section will also cultivate the young to devote themselves to the achievement of technological independence and self-reliance.
