On May 24, Zhang Kui, an alumnus of the 1989 class of NKIIE (Institute of International Economics, Nankai University) and chairman of Shanghai Zhiyue Investment Management Co., Ltd., visited his alma mater ̶ Nankai University. On behalf of the Nankai Alumni Association of Shanghai, Zhang donated two million yuan, including a one-million-yuan personal donation in support of the establishment of the Nankai Book House in Xinjiang, Jiangxi, Henan and other places. Qu Kai, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Nankai University, representing Nankai accepted the donation and presented the donation certificate as well as the education contribution award to the alumni representatives for their donation.
Qu Kai said that the Nankai Alumni Association of Shanghai has always been concerned about the alma mater and has made a great contribution to the development of Nankai University. As a social welfare development project, the Nankai Book House connects the grassroots of China and shows the strong sense of social responsibility of Nankai students, reflecting their patriotism and love for the country. The Nankai Alumni Association of Shanghai has been committed to the program development of the Nankai Book House for years, actively performing the national rural revitalization hand in hand with Nankai University. Undoubtedly, the progress of Nankai is closely attached to the effort of the alumni. Qu hopes that the alumni would continue to contribute to the development of Nankai and help the construction of a double first-class of the university.
Zhang Kui said, the Nankai Book House has brought knowledge and happiness to primary and secondary school students in poor areas, becoming a great public image of Nankai. Every achievement of Nankai is quite an honor for the alumni, thus it is an important mission for each alumnus to give a hand to the development of Nankai. The Nankai Alumni Association of Shanghai would further shoulder the responsibility and commitment of Nankai students to reward the society.
The Nankai Bookstore is a social welfare development project launched by our university in 2011 with the aim of building small libraries for primary and secondary schools in underdeveloped areas. Through the establishment of volunteer bases, volunteers carry out teaching activities during winter and summer vacations and remote support during semesters, sending abundant books and rich teaching resources to students in areas with a lack of educational resources. Over a decade, the team has built 331 Nankai Book Houses in 28 provinces and autonomous regions in China, achieving full coverage of the backward provinces in central and western China. It gives hundreds of thousands of children in poor areas wings to realize their dreams.
