On May 22, Nankai University and SCOLAR Network jointly organized the first online Model SCO, with the theme of The 20th Anniversary of the SCO: Experience of Cultural Exchange and Blueprint for the Future. The president Cao Xuetao sent a congratulatory letter, and the Secretary-General of the SCO Vladimir Norov delivered a video congratulatory speech.
Cao stated in the congratulatory letter that the SCO is one of the most influential international organizations in the world and has always attached great importance to the promotion of people-to-people dialogue through multiple cultural activities. 2021 is the SCO Cultural Year. It is of far-reaching significance that the first Model SCO of Nankai University was held in this year. He encouraged students to work hard to cultivate the responsibility of integrating into the world and building a community with a shared future for mankind, and put forward a constructive and referential joint statement with wisdom during the activity.
In his speech, Norov reviewed the important role played by the SCO over the past two decades and emphasized the importance of youth to the future. He said that the SCO firmly believes in the value of strengthening dialogue among young people within its member states, and strived to facilitate youth dialogue.
Seventeen students from six colleges participated in this activity under the guidance of the Youth League Committee of the College of History and the Model United Nations Association. The students simulated the proceedings, acting as the Secretary-General of the SCO and representatives of the 8 member states: Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, and India. Through the presidency of the rotating chairmanship, the joint statement was jointly drafted and issued through such processes as the discussion, reading of the position paper, free discussion, proposal of amendments, voting, and rewriting of the main points. In the end, according to the voting results of the participants, three awards were bestowed for Best Representative, Best Position Paper and Best Performer.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is a permanent intergovernmental international organization established in Shanghai in 2001. In the 20 years since its establishment, under the guidance of the Shanghai Spirit, the countries of the SCO have taken practical actions to overcome the challenges faced by mankind and seek a more prosperous and beautiful future.
