President Cao Xuetao Visits Tianjin Eye Hospital

On June 10, Cao Xuetao, an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and President of Nankai University, visited Tianjin Eye Hospital. The two sides conducted extensive exchanges of views on the in-depth cooperation in medical education and research. Wang Chunge, Secretary of the CPC Tianjin Eye Hospital Committee, Wang Yan, President of the hospital, Chen Jun, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Vice President of Nankai University, Zhong Yanying, Secretary of the Commission for Discipline Inspection of Tianjin Eye Hospital, and Hong Liang, Vice President of the hospital, attended the meeting.

At the meeting, Wang Yan introduced the hospital in detail. She said that Tianjin Eye Hospital and Nankai University have maintained a good cooperative relationship for a long time. It is hoped that the two sides would further deepen this perennial cooperation and contribute to the development of ophthalmology in China, and together, to advance Healthy China Strategy.

President Cao pointed out that Tianjin Eye Hospital had a long history and distinctive technical characteristics. This meeting can help promote the collaboration between Nankai University and Tianjin Eye Hospital. We can integrate advantages each other and work together to better satisfy the needs of human life. A world-class ophthalmic center was proposed in the meeting.

It has been a long time since Nankai University began its collaboration with Tianjin Eye Hospital. In 2017, Nankai University and Tianjin Eye Hospital signed a strategic cooperation agreement for all-around cooperation. In 2019, the School of Medicine of Nankai University, the Tianjin Eye Hospital and the School of Optometry of American Pacific University signed a cooperation agreement for the joint organization of the Department of Ophthalmology, which was approved by the Ministry of Education to enroll the first batch of students that year. In 2021, on the 26th National Eye Day, Nankai University and Tianjin Eye Hospital jointly sponsored eye health volunteer service activities. In addition, the hospital offers courses on Ophthalmology for both 5+3 integrated clinical medicine majors and the clinical medicine major for international students. Also, the hospital developed a general education course, “Light, Vision and Art” at Nankai, offered by well-known experts in the field of visual science.
