New Collaboration Linked Nankai and Institute for the History of Natural Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences

On June 23rd, a new strategic collaboration was initiated between Nankai University and the Institute for the History of Natural Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Sciences to establish the Research Center for History of Science and Technology at Nankai University (the Center) . The two institutes intend to conduct in-depth cooperation in accelerating the disciplinary development,  promoting the academic communication, and increasing support for scholars. Dr. Cao Xuetao, President of Nankai University, Dr. Chen Jun, Vice President of Nankai University, Dr. Guan Xiaowu, Deputy Director and Researcher of the Institute for the History of Natural Sciences, and Dr. Zhang Baichun, Director of the Center and Researcher of the Institute for the History of Natural Sciences, attended the signing ceremony. The collaboration sets a milestone for future research and disciplinary development and encourages the two institutes to meet the needs of national strategic planning and enhances the social development. Highlighting the relationship between two institutes, Dr. Cao Xuetao and Dr. Guan Xiaowu expressed their excitement and expectations for the new center to contribute to the scientific innovation of China. 

A forum on the History of Science and Technology was held after the signing ceremony. Multiple scholars gave talks on the forum. The topics included “The Argument on Tu Youyou’s Discovery of Artemisinin”, “Research on the History of Mathematics from a Global View”, “Can Arts and Sciences Teachers Sit Together and Collaborate?”, “Unity of Knowledge and Action: The Academic and Spiritual Legacy of Mr. Liu Xianzhou”, and “The Complementary and Competitiveness of Chinese and European Manufacturing Technology in the 16th to 18th Century.
