On June 21^st, a launch meeting of the Haihe Laboratory of Green Substance Creation and Manufacturing (called the Lab) was held at Nankai University. Dr. Cheng Jinpei, Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Director of the Lab, Mr. Bai Haili, Deputy Director of Tianjin Municipal Education Commission, Dr. Chen Jun, Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Vice President of Nankai University, and Dr. Yuan Yingjin, Vice President of Tianjin University attended the meeting. Dr. Cheng Jinpei spoke highly of the achievements made by Nankai University and Tianjin University on the Lab. He pointed out that green chemistry is one of the key elements to realize carbon neutrality and the Lab should operate not only as a regional but a national base of science and technology for innovation to serve this purpose. Dr. Cheng also addressed the importance of attracting experts and scholars from multiply disciplinary and fields to work in the Lab and apply their work to support the regional and national development. Members of the College of Chemistry and the Department of Science and Technology of Nankai University provided the launching progress of the Lab in details.
