On July 8, Wang Junzhi, Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Director of the Academic Council of the National Institutes for Food and Drug Control, visited Nankai University and gave a lecture on Overview of the biological drugs development in China.
Wang Lei, Vice President of Nankai University, attended the lecture and presented to Wang Junzhi the commemorative certificate. Xu Jianguo, Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Director of the State Key Laboratory of Infectious Disease Prevention and Control, Dean of the Tianjin’s and Nankai’s Research Institute of Public Health presided over the lecture.
Academician Wang first reviewed the classification and development of biological drugs. He then introduced the application of biological drugs in disease prevention and treatment, and added that vaccination, for now, is the most economical and effective means to control infectious diseases. He said that the batch release of vaccines is mainly domestically produced, and China is so far one of the few countries in the world to ensure its vaccine supply without pleading for outside help.
Wang stated that regulatory science, the root for regulatory decision making, is the science used to assess the quality, safety and efficacy of pharmaceutical products when it comes to their life duration. In the last part of the speech, Wang presented the current status of the new Covid-19 vaccine development and vaccination.
