At the invitation of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO) and the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), collaborated with WFEO-China and WFEO-CEIT, Nankai University organized and hosted an exhibition with the theme “Engineering Innovations for Sustainable Development”, the forum for Quality Geographic Products for Ecological and Environmental Conservation and Sustainable Development and the 2021 High-Level Seminar on Engineering Innovations in Services for Global Sustainable Development at the 2021 China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS)

The Exhibition with the Theme “Engineering Innovations for Sustainable Development

On September 4, Nankai University, in partnership with Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, CAS, jointly held the promotion activity of best practices of engineering innovations for sustainable development and the forum for Quality Geographic Products for Ecological and Environmental Conservation and Sustainable Development”.

Roundtable Discussion on “Engineering Innovations for Sustainable and Habitable Environment” 

This seminar was held under the theme Engineering Innovations in Services for Sustainable Development. Starting from three dimensions of the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, namely economy, society and environment, the seminar proceed by three sessions. The topics of each session are “Engineering Innovations for Economic New Driver for Sustainable Development”, “Engineering Innovations for the Sustainable Future” and “Engineering Innovations for Sustainable and Habitable Environment”. All guest speakers elaborated on their viewpoints and shared their insights into the topics. Professor Cheng Mingming from the Department of Computer Science and Technology of Nankai University addressed the seminar about Image Intelligence Contributing to Health and Welfare. Professor Huang Jinhui from the College of Environmental Science and Engineering, Nankai University was invited to participate in the Roundtable Discussion on “Engineering Innovations for Sustainable and Habitable Environment”.

Members of the talent pool for international organizations and the training camp for global talents to international organizations of Nankai University, experts from WFEO-China and faculties and students from School of Public Policy & Management, Tsinghua University were invited to join in the seminar online.

Project of Photovoltaic Power Generation for Transformation to Green Energy of Nankai University Exhibited at the CIFTIS

The Project of Development of Monosulfuron, a Special Herbicide for Super Efficient and Eco-friendly Millet of College of Chemistry and Project of Photovoltaic Power Generation for Transformation to Green Energy of Institute of Photoelectronic Thin Film Devices and Technology, Nankai University were showcased at the Engineering Innovations for Sustainable Development Exhibition as excellent examples. The notable work, The Unique Millet in China: The Innovative forefront of Science and Technology, written by Prof. Li Zhengming, academician of CAE, professor from the College of Chemistry, NKU, was also on display. Department of Exhibition Management of College of Tourism and Service Management, Nankai University assisted with the design of this exhibition. And eight students from the College of Foreign Languages and Zhou Enlai School of Government, Nankai University had full involvement in the preparation and organization of this event, revealing the vitality and qualities of NKU students. Besides, Nankai University was granted the Outstanding Organization Award for its endeavors in holding the Engineering Innovations for Sustainable Development Exhibition and Seminar at 2021 CIFTIS.

During the event, dialogues were conducted between representatives from the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs, UNESCO China, UNIDO ITPO, WMO, WTPF and other institutions and Nankai University on potential possibilities of cooperation.

CIFTIS is the largest comprehensive exhibition in the field of global trade in services and the leading exhibition in the field of trade in services in China, which has become one of the three major exhibition platforms for China’s opening-up. CIFTIS (including the former Beijing Fair) has been successfully held for six sessions, which has become an important platform for spreading ideas, connecting supply and demand, sharing business opportunities, and promoting common development in the field of international trade in services.

Co-hosted by the Ministry of Commerce and the People's Government of Beijing Municipality, 153 countries and regions and over 10,000 businesses registered and attended the 2021 CIFTIS online and on site. Chinese President Xi Jinping made an opening remark at 2021 CIFTIS.
