On September 4, the research report, Digital Economy and China, written by the Nankai University research team of School of Economics, Center for Digital Economy and Research Center on Multinational Corporations, was released at the 2021 International Forum on South-South Cooperation and Trade in Services, which is co-organized by United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) and China International Center for Economic and Technical Exchanges. Prof. Sheng Bin from Nankai University released the results on behalf of the research team, while Prof. Yan Bing and Prof. Li Ronglin attended the forum.
The 2021 International Forum on South-South Cooperation and Trade in Services was held at the China National Convention Center in Beijing with the theme of Digital Economy Development for a New Pattern of South-South Cooperation. More than 200 attendees from the Ministry of Commerce, Beijing Municipal Government, representatives of international organizations such as UNOSSC, UNDP and UNIDO, foreign ambassadors, local governments, research institutes in universities, industry associations and enterprises attended the forum through online and offline channels.
In the reserach team, Prof. Xian Guoming of Nankai University serves as advisor, Prof. Sheng Bin serves as team leader, Prof. Yan Bing, Shi Bingzhan and Li Lei serve as deputy team leaders. With around 460,000 words, the Chinese version of the report has been published by Nankai University Press recently, and the English version will be published soon.
The research report consists of nine parts, namely development of the global digital economy, development of China's digital economy, digital economy and industrial upgrading, digital economy and trade, digital economy and international investment, digital economy and finance, digital economy and labor market, digital economy and global governance, and policy recommendations for the development of China's digital economy. With the presentation of the characteristics and trends of global digital economy development as features and innovation, the report analyzes the achievements and problems of China's digital industrialization, industry digitization, digital trade and investment, focuses on the social impact of digital economy and discusses in depth the domestic and international digital governance rule system.
It is reported that the research report Digital Economy and China was originated from the intention to promote deeper cooperation and joint research reached by Professor Klaus Schwab, founder and Chairman of the World Economic Forum and Honorary Doctor of Nankai University, during his visit to Nankai University in 2018. Subsequently, the World Economic Forum provided support to the research project. The report is also one of the important outcomes of the Center for Digital Economy, which was established in June 2020 by the Chinese Association for Science and Technology, Tianjin Municipal People's Government and Nankai University, as well as the outcome of the Digital Economy Cross-Science Center of Nankai University under construction.
