On September 26, Nankai University held a symposium on research and capacity building concerning infectious disease control and prevention in Jinnan Campus. Vice President Wang Lei attended the symposium and delivered a speech, and Xu Jianguo, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and director of the Research Institute of Public Health, Nankai University, attended the symposium online.

Wang Lei pointed out that the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of infectious disease control and prevention. In order to serve the national major strategic needs, and follow the overall arrangement of the university, it is planned to concentrate and integrate the multidisciplinary study and clinical research efforts of relevant colleges and affiliated hospitals of Nankai University, to collectively tackle key problems and make joint efforts to contribute Nankai University's strength in safeguarding people's health and infectious disease control and prevention.

Academician Xu Jianguo said, Nankai University can give full play to its advantages as a comprehensive university by conducting interdisciplinary integration and seeking innovation-driven development, contributing to the realization of the ambitious goal of “Healthy China”.

Based on the disciplinary and research advantages, the participants discussed how to improve the research and capacity building concerning infectious disease control and prevention .
