Scholar from Nankai University Received Outstanding Paper Award for IEEE TII, an International Top Journal

2021-11-07

Recently, the paper “Simultaneous Bearing Fault Recognition and Remaining Useful Life Prediction Using Joint-Loss Convolutional Neural Network” with Yang Boyuan, an associate professor from College of Artificial Intelligence of Nankai University, as the only corresponding author, was awarded 2021 IEEE Outstanding Paper Award for the Transactions on Industrial Informatics.

This paper, aimed at the issues such as lack of life data and operation information in the process of high-end equipment operation, considering the relevance between fault diagnosis and life prediction, has proposed a method based on the joint-loss convolutional neural network to realize equipment operation knowledge sharing and promoted effective integration of knowledge and data through algorithms like implicit data enhancement, attention mechanism and representation bias, which have been verified and applied in practical engineering data. This work has been reported by IEEE IET News on the home page, which received widespread international attention.

As an international top journal in the direction of computer and automatic control system, with an impact factor of IF=10.215, IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics ranks No. 1 in the field of industrial engineering in terms of influence worldwide (from JCR). This award is founded by IEEE and considering the innovation, professionalism, application value and other aspects of the paper comprehensively, the reviewers select 1-2 excellent technological papers from nearly 1000 admitted papers every year as outstanding papers

The co-authors of this paper are Dr. Liu Ruonan, researcher of Carnegie Mellon University (the first author, now the tenured associate professor of Tianjin University) , Professor Alexander Hauptmann of Carnegie Mellon University and the corresponding author Yang Boyuan, associate professor from College of Artificial Intelligence of our university. Carnegie Mellon University is the first author unit of the paper. Yang Boyuan joined Professor Fang Yongchun’s research group of College of Artificial Intelligence in 2020 through introduction of overseas talents, whose main research fields are intelligent operation and maintenance of major equipment, WITMED and AI game.
