On November 20, the inaugural meeting of Siyuan College, the 8th Smart College of Nankai University, was held. The heads from Nankai University Eye Hospital  (Tianjin Eye Hospital), School of Medicine and Faculty of History attended. The first batch of mentors appointed by Siyuan College and the first batch of students joining the College, over 50 in number, from different schools and departments of Nankai University participated.

Siyuan College is committed to improving people's health, and further exploring the social and humanistic attributes of medicine. Through the establishment of the Smart College, an educational atmosphere of teachers and students make progress together can be created, which will further spread the humanistic care spirit of medicine, and increase students’ consciousness of providing health service.

Wang Yan, director of Nankai University Eye Hospital (Tianjin Eye Hospital), also a mentor representative, said in his speech that the medicine is not only about medical skills but also about humanity and feelings, and that the medical ethics and self-cultivation should be prioritized. Siyuan Academy will function as a favorable carrier of inheriting the medical spirit and enlightening the wisdom of students.

Professor Xia Yan, vice dean of Faculty of History, also as a mentor representative, stated that medicine is a discipline with rich humanistic feelings, and the history is a subject focusing on the life’s origin and development in history. In recent years, Faculty of History has evolved into a very important academic base in medical social history and medical disease history, laying a good basis for communication and exchange between the School of Medicine and Faculty of History in Nankai University. In the future, I will have in-depth exchanges in Siyuan Academy with teachers and students from all schools and departments of Nankai University.
