China's First Research Centre for Ancient Japanese History was Established at Nankai University

On May 14, the Research Center for Ancient Japanese History was launched during the "Seminar on Research Methods and Subjects of Ancient Japanese History in the New Era", which was jointly held by the Japan Institute of Nankai University and the Chinese Society of Japanese History.

Yang Dongliang, professor of Nankai University and president of the Chinese Society of Japanese History, and Liu Xiaofeng, professor of Tsinghua University and head of the Ancient History Branch of the Chinese Society of Japanese History, delivered speeches and extended their congratulations to the establishment of the center. Professor Liu Yuebing, dean of the Japan Institute of Nankai University, read the congratulatory letter from Mr. Wang Jinlin, an authoritative scholar on ancient Japanese history. 

"This is a strategically important step taken in China’s Japanese history research community four decades after the establishment of the Ancient Japanese History Branch of the Chinese Society of Japanese History in 1982," said Mr. Wang Jinlin. He added that over the past four decades, Chinese scholars have explored some major issues in ancient Japanese history and some of their research results and views have drawn significant attention among the Japanese academia.

Wang Yuling, director of the Research Centre for Ancient Japanese History, said that the centre will promote interdisciplinary exchanges and cooperation, strive to contribute to the development of Japanese studies and talent training, as well as provide a platform for young scholars to present their research results, exchange academic views and share academic information. 

In the afternoon, online discussions were held and the participating experts gave reports on politics, religion, society, thoughts, etc., in different eras of ancient Japan.
