On June 13, Tianjin Eye Hospital and Tianjin Eye Hospital Optometric Center Co., Ltd. jointly donated RMB 30 million to Nankai University and set up the "Development Fund of Institute of Ophthalmology of Nankai University", in a bid to support the development of the Institute. Cao Xuetao, President of Nankai University, Mei Zhihong, Deputy Director of Tianjin Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, Wang Lei and Chen Jun, Vice Presidents of Nankai University, and Wang Yan, Director of Tianjin Eye Hospital attended the ceremony.

On October 19, 2021, the Institute of Ophthalmology of Nankai University was inaugurated jointly by Nankai University and Tianjin Eye Hospital. The Institute plans to make full use of the advantages of Nankai University and Tianjin Eye Hospital to create an innovative university-hospital combined research system with the goal of making first-class academic achievements and nurturing top-notch talents.

The donation will promote the development of the Institute of Ophthalmology of NKU, help gather top-class experts at home and abroad, and facilitate the cross-disciplinary development of medicine, engineering and science.
