The finals of China Undergraduate Life Science Contest (CULSC) (innovation and entrepreneurship category in 2022) were held online from July 29 to 31, 2022. As one of 5,053 entries, "Rhizospheric Microorganism Community Remodeling Technology Based on Synthetic Bacteria and Its Application to Pollution Remediation" submitted by Yin Hongda, Feng Li'an, Chen Yuqiao, Feng Yuming, Liang Boyuan and Zeng Xinlin, who are undergraduates of NKU College of Life Sciences, won the first prize in the innovation group.
The project was completed under the guidance of Yu Qilin from NKU College of Life Sciences. Organized by the National Demonstration Center for Experimental Teaching in Biology (Nankai University), the team innovatively adopted synthetic biology methods to reconstruct the rhizospheric microorganism community of water hyacinth by strengthening physical connection, and organically linked phytoremediation and microbial remediation in the form of rhizospheric microorganism community remodeling. It helped to develop new collaborative bioremediation technologies.
The CULSC is one of the 56 national undergraduate discipline competitions recognized by the Ministry of Education of China.
