Three NKU Teachers Awarded Fok Ying Tung Education Foundation's 18th Higher Education Youth Science Award and Education and Teaching Award

Recently, Fok Ying Tung Education Foundation's 18th Higher Education Youth Science Award and Education and Teaching Award presentation ceremony was held simultaneously in Beijing and Hong Kong via network connections. Huai Jinpeng, Minister of Education and John Lee Ka-chiu, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, gave speeches at the ceremony. Tian Xuejun, Vice Minister of Education, gave concluding remarks and presented awards to the winner representatives. Professor Shi Yongtang of Center for Combinatorics, NKU, won the second prize of the Youth Science Award. Professor Sun Hongwen of College of Environmental Science and Engineering, NKU, and Professor Deng Shaoqiang of School of Mathematical Sciences, NKU, won the second prize of the Education and Teaching Award.

Professor Shi Yongtang is primarily engaged in the teaching and scientific research on graph theory and combinatorial optimization, and is an influential figure in this field. His main course "Graph Theory" is selected as a national and Tianjin municipal-level model course. 

Professor Sun Hongwen has made fruitful achievements in the fields of environmental chemistry of new pollutants, risks to human health and remediation of contaminated environment. Professor Sun won the first and second prizes of the Ministry of Education Natural Sciences Award and the first prize of Tianjin Science and Technology Progress Award. Her main course "Environmental Chemistry" is rated as a national excellent course and a national online first-class course.  

Professor Deng Shaoqiang has made world-class achievements in the field of Lie Groups and Differential Geometry. His publication Homogeneous Finsler Spaces is included in the famous "Springer Monographs in Mathematics" series. He won the second prize of the Ministry of Education Natural Sciences Award. His main course "Abstract Algebra" is selected as a national high-quality resource sharing course. 

Established in 1986, Fok Ying Tung Education Foundation aims to fund and reward university faculties who have made excellent achievements in scientific research and teaching. Since the 18th session in 2021, the Award, with an consideration to teaching and scientific research, has set up "Youth Science Award" and the "Education and Teaching Award" to honor young and middle-aged faculties who have been engaged in undergraduate teaching and made key contributions to student cultivation, and young researchers with outstanding achievements and potential in scientific research.
