The 2023 eScience Summit Forum (New Energy Youth Session) was held in Tianjin from April 21 to 23. The forum was co-hosted by the Editorial Board of eScience and Nankai District Haihe Carbon Neutrality Research Institute in Tianjin, and co-organized by the Applied Chemistry and Engineering Research Institute of Nankai University, Haihe Laboratory of Sustainable Chemical Transformations, Ministry of Education Engineering Research Center for High-efficiency Energy Storage and State Key Laboratory of Advanced Chemical Power Sources.

At the opening ceremony, Chen Jun, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, vice president of Nankai University and founding editor of eScience, said that China focuses on the major strategic goals of “carbon peak” and “carbon neutrality” in new fields such as solar cells, electric vehicles, and large-scale energy storage, and that Tianjin is promoting ten initiatives including the construction of Tiankai Higher Education Innovation Park. The eScience Summit Forum, which is a special session for young professionals in the new energy field, includes two plenary lectures and five sub-forums and is intended to contribute to high-quality development and self-reliance and self-improvement in science and technology.

After the opening ceremony, academician Cheng Huiming and academician Zhang Jin gave invited talks entitled “Progress of Two-ion Battery Technology” and “Controlled Preparation of Carbonene Fibers and Application Exploration” respectively, elaborating on the carbon neutrality roadmap, electric energy storage technology, preparation and functional application of high-strength fiber materials.

This event, with the theme of “New Energy Assists Chinese Modernization”, drew over 800 teaching, scientific research, and engineering and technical personnel as well as students from universities, scientific research institutes and related enterprises and public institutions across the country. It consists of five sub-forums based on the topics of energy storage batteries, traction batteries, electrocatalysis and synthesis, photoelectric energy utilization, and new energy AI and advanced characterizations. The event includes 178 invited talks and 115 posters, and also sets up outstanding contribution youth award for 18 winners and the most popular cover award for three winners.
