The National Commendation Conference for Technological Innovation and Outstanding Scientific Research Achievement Award in Higher Education was held in Beijing on July 12. Chen Jun, Nankai's Vice President, attended the conference. The Outstanding Scientific Research Achievement Award (Science and Technology) for universities is intended to recognize individuals and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to scientific discovery, technological invention, and promotion of scientific and technological progress. In this event, Nankai University received a total of 5 science and technology awards in this selection, with 4 awards as the first completion institutiom, including one first prize and three second prizes for Natural Science Award. Nankai participated in another first prize in natural sciences, making the total number of awards significantly higher compared to previous years.

The Five awards include: “Novel Organic Boron and Silicon Reactive Reagents” led by Professor Cui Chunming of the State Key Laboratory of Elemento-organic Chemistry won the first prize for Natural Science Award; the “Construction of Microbial Electrochemical Activated Carbon Self-Respiring Cathode and Low-Cost Pollution Control Principles” led by Professor Wang Xin of the College of Environmental Science and Engineering won the second prize for the Natural Science Award; the “Exposure Pathways, Metabolic Transformation and Health Risks of Emerging Pollutants” led by Professor Wang Lei of College of Environmental Science and Engineering won the second prize for the Natural Science Award; the project “Ovarian Aging Mechanisms and Novel Strategies for Functional Reconstruction” led by Professor Liu Lin of the College of Life Sciences won the second prize for the Natural Science Award; the achievement “Hierarchical Content Awareness of Visual Media” jointly made by Professor Cheng Mingming’s team from College of Computer Science and Professor Zhao Yao’s team from Beijing Jiaotong University won the first prize for the Natural Science Award.
