2023-08-21

Recently, China National Intellectual Property Administration issued the Decision on the Awarding of the 24th China Patent Award. The invention “A porous lithium manganate electrode material and its preparation method and application” developed under the leadership of Chen Jun, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a professor at the College of Chemistry of Nankai University, won the China Patent Excellence Award.

It is reported that in order to address the key technical problems of short cycle life of lithium-ion power batteries, low fast-charging capacity and inferior safety, the award-winning invention has developed a method for preparing manganese-based spinel cathode with multi-level porous structure, constructed a rapid ion transport and electron transfer path, and simplified the synthesis process with considerably reduced energy consumption. It has made breakthroughs in low-cost mass preparation of manganese-based spinel materials, and also optimized the battery manufacturing process. Power batteries developed using this technology in collaboration with enterprises have world-leading performance, with a battery cycle life of over 2,500 cycles, 6-minute fast charging and high safety level. It has broad prospects in the field of new energy vehicles, and has promoted the upgrading of the lithium battery industry structure and contributed to the goal of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, bringing significant economic and social benefits.

The results of the 24th China Patent Award are reviewed by the China Patent Award Review Committee and verified and determined by China National Intellectual Property Administration and the World Intellectual Property Organization in accordance with the Measures for the Appraisal of the China Patent Award, upon recommendation by the intellectual property work administrative agencies of the relevant departments of the State Council, local intellectual property offices, relevant national industry associations, as well as academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

Established by the China National Intellectual Property Administration in 1989, the China Patent Award is the only government award in China that recognizes inventions and creations with patent rights, and is recognized by the United Nations World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
