Recently, according to the latest ESI discipline development report released by Nankai University Library, Nankai University’s engineering program ranked among the top 1‰ of ESI for the first time, becoming the third discipline to rank among the top 1‰ of ESI after chemistry and materials science. The immunology discipline ranked among the top 1% of ESI for the first time, becoming the 17th discipline of Nankai University to hit the ESI list.
Up to now, NKU has 17 disciplines among the global top 1% of the ESI, including Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics, Environmental Science and Ecology, Engineering, Biology and Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Genetics, Clinical Medicine, Computer Science, Mathematics, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Economics and Business, Agricultural Science, General Introduction to Social Science, Microbiology, Botany and Zoology, and Immunology.
According to the statistics provided in this issue, 8,901 institutions around the world rank among the world’s top 1%. Nankai University ranks 299th in the world and 26th on the comprehensive ranking of Chinese mainland universities, with a total of 37,325 papers, including 904 highly cited papers and 34 hot papers, totaling 860,486 citations and 23.05 average citations per paper.
In terms of engineering discipline, Nankai University ranks 233rd among international institutions and 56th among Chinese mainland universities. Engineering papers are in high quality and big influence, with 18.90 average citations per paper, ranking fourth among Chinese mainland universities.
It is learned that this report is based on the latest ESI statistics released by Clarivate on November 9.
Essential Science Indicators (ESI) is one of the most important indicators currently used to evaluate the international academic level and influence of universities and research institutions. It ranks the total number of citations of papers published by institutions around the world in the past decade, and the top 1% of disciplines ranked by ESI are generally regarded as international high-quality disciplines, while those that rank among the top 1‰ are usually deemed to be world-class in terms of discipline strength.
