NKU Won Grand Prize at 18th National “Challenge Cup” Competition

Nankai University students won one grand prize, three first prizes and two second prizes at the finals of the 18th “Challenge Cup” National College Students’ Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition. Nankai University marked a breakthrough with all six entries recommended advancing to the finals and won the “Excellence Cup”, becoming once again the star performer among Tianjin universities in this competition.



Guided by Li Chunxiao, Li Hui and Xu Hong from the College of Tourism and Service Management, the entry named “The Path to the Supply-side Transformation and Upgrading of the Cultural Tourism Industry - Based on the Research on Development of Cultural Tourism in Shanxi Province from 2020 to 2023” won the grand prize.


The works that won the first prize included the entry named “Atomic-scale Design and Electrochemical Mechanism of Key Materials for Lithium-Air Batteries” under the guidance of Liu Junqing and Dong Yue from the School of Materials Science and Engineering; the entry named “Transmutation and Rebirth: Research on the Spatial Production of China’s Last Primitive Tribe: Based on the Analytical Framework of “Actor-Behavior-Governance Structure” under the guidance of Wu Xiaolin, Ma Xuegang, and Liu Yinxi from Zhou Enlai School of Government; and the entry named “Research on the Mechanism of Linkage between Internet Medical Care and Community Hospitals under the Hierarchical Healthcare System” under the guidance of Zhang Xiaofei, Pan Qiyu, and Li Kai from Business School. 


The works that won the second prize included the entry named “Application of Deep Learning in Digital Subtraction Angiography: A Potential New Method for Reducing Radiation Dose” under the guidance of Xu Jun, Wang Ruijue and Xiong Qiang, faculty at the School of Statistics and Data Science and the entry named “Research on Online Doctor-Patient Interaction Based on Internet Healthcare Assistance for the Elderly” under the guidance of Zhang Xiaofei, Li Kai and Pan Qiyu, faculty at Business School.



Moreover, this year’s “Challenge Cup” Competition set up special red event, “futuristic technology” competition and “open competition to select the best candidates” in addition to the regular competition.


In the special red event, the entry “Venturing into the Deep Blue and Making China a Maritime Power” under the guidance of Liu Bo and Duan Shaoxiang from the College of Electronic Information and Optical Engineering, won the second prize. The entry “Nankai Purple Falls in Love with the Soviet Red” under the guidance of Liu Yibo from the School of Marxism; the entry “The Path to Development of China’s Rural Tourism Industry for Common Prosperity – Case Study of Anji County, Zhejiang Province” under the guidance of Zhang Haipeng from the School of Economics; and the entry “Poetic and Beautiful Shaoxing – In Search of the Red Mark through Poetry” under the guidance of Li Guangxin, Wang Qi, and Sun Xiaowei from the School of Literature, won the third prize. The entry “Bionic Super-hydrophilic Liquid Transport Multi-level Interface Materials” under the guidance of Cao Moyuan from the School of Materials Science and Engineering, won the title of “star-level work” in the “Futuristic Technology” competition.


Nankai University encourages creativity through the competition, and discovers and cultivates high-quality innovation and entrepreneurship projects by holding the “President’s Cup” innovation and entrepreneurship competition. On the occation of the initaion of Tiankai Higher Education Science and Technology Innovation Park, the university absorded all kinds of innovation and market resources and organized over 40 expert guidance and exchange activities to improve the performances of the entries. During the process, the university also led students to uphold patriotism and burden their mission through rich entrepreneurship and innovation practices, i.e. contributing to the country and society with their expertise.



The “Challenge Cup” competition is known as the “Olympic” event for college students in the aspect of scientific and technological innovation. This year’s competition drew over 2.5 million students from more than 2,000 colleges nationwide with  more than 400,000 works.
