Recently, the list of winners for the “Wu Wenjun Artificial Intelligence Science and Technology Award”, known as “China’s Premier Award for Intelligent Science and Technology” and the highest accolade in the field of artificial intelligence, was officially announced. Xiang Li, an associate professor at the College of Computer Science and the College of Cyber Science of Nankai University, was awarded the 2023 “Wu Wenjun Outstanding Youth Award for Artificial Intelligence”.

According to the “Announcement on Incentives for Wu Wenjun Artificial Intelligence Science and Technology Award” issued by the Chinese Society for Artificial Intelligence, a total of 70 awards of various types are set up this year, including 15 outstanding youth awards, in recognition of young scientists and technicians who have made leading original achievements and made breakthroughs in the field of intelligent science and technology. 

Xiang Li, an associate professor and doctoral supervisor, specializes in computer vision and deep learning. In recent years, he has published over 30 papers in high-level international conferences and academic journals, with more than 10,000 citations according to Google Scholar. He has been nominated for awards such as the CCF Outstanding Ph.D. Dissertation Award, the Young Outstanding Paper Award at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference, and the Best Paper Nomination at the Computational Visual Media Journal (CVMJ) in 2022. He has served as a reviewer for top international artificial intelligence conferences such as AAAI and CVPR, as well as authoritative journals including TPAMI, TIP, and TMM. Additionally, he has chaired sessions at the Chinese Conference on Pattern Recognition and Computer Vision (PRCV2023) and serves as an associate editor for the journal Image and Vision Computing.

Xiang Li has led teams to win the first place at the 2015 Alibaba First Tianchi Big Data Competition (1/7186 teams), first place at the 2016 Didi Research Institute’s First Big Data Competition (1/7664 teams), first place in Semantic Landscape Image Generation category at the 2022 Jittor Artificial Intelligence Challenge (1/154 teams), etc. The related algorithm has been applied to Alibaba's mobile e-commerce platform and received special coverage on CCTV. 

“Wu Wenjun Artificial Intelligence Science and Technology Award”, sponsored by the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence, is the only science and technology award that is named after Wu Wenjun in the field of intelligent science and technology in China and was established based on non-governmental forces. Known as “the premier award for intelligent science and technology in China”, it recognizes organizations or individuals who have made important discoveries in intelligent scientific research, made original innovations and breakthroughs, or made breakthroughs in key core technologies in the field of artificial intelligence, promoted significant progress in intelligent science and technology, and created significant economic and social benefits or ecological and environmental benefits.
