Recently, the International Conference on Insurance and Actuarial Science was held at Haibing Center on Balitai Campus, Nankai University. The conference was hosted by the Nankai-Taikang College of Insurance and Actuarial Science of Nankai University and co-organized by Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University. Sheng Bin, Vice President of Nankai University and Liu Qu, Vice President of Taikang Insurance Group Co., Ltd., attended and delivered speeches at the opening ceremony. Yang Hailiang, a professor at the Department of Finance and Actuarial Mathematics of Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University and a council member of Nankai-Taikang College of Insurance and Actuarial Science, presided over the ceremony.

More than 120 experts and scholars from Chinese and foreign well-known universities including the University of California, Los Angeles, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Boston University, University of Waterloo, Nanyang Technological University, University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, and Renmin University of China attended the conference.

On behalf of Nankai University, Sheng Bin extended a welcome to the experts and scholars present, and introduced the history of Nankai University, the development of insurance and actuarial science, and the frontier issues on academic research development.

At the reporting session, Prof. Ian Duncan of the University of California, Santa Barbara, Prof. Steven Kou of Boston University, Chair Prof. Min Dai of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Prof. Steven Vanduffel of the Free University of Brussels, Prof. Feng Runhuan of Tsinghua University, Prof. Peng Shi of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Associate Prof. Michalis Anthropelos of the University of Piraeus, Prof. Maochao Xu of Illinois State University, and Prof. Zhuo Jin of Macquarie University delivered speeches entitled “Is There a Future for Health Insurance”, “Non-standard Dynamic Utility Maximization”, “Research on Optimal Trading Strategy for Stochastic Dyckin Game Based on Machine Learning and Consideration of Transaction Costs”, “Measurement of Distortion Risk with Robustness”, “Generalized Tontine Annuity Insurance”, “Insurable Risk Portfolio and Data Uncertainty”, “Extended Research on Risk Sharing”, “Diverse Network Risk: Measurement and Dependence”, and “A Hybrid Deep Reinforcement Learning Approach for Insurance Portfolio Management”, respectively. 

At the sub-forums, nearly 40 experts and scholars conducted in-depth discussions on their respective research fields and shared academic views based on frontier academic issues and practical applications regarding the topics of “Reinsurance”, “Life Insurance Actuarial Science”, “Risk Theory”, “Actuarial Mathematics”, “Insurance Market” and “Quantitative Finance and Insurance Investment”.

It is reported that the International Conference on Insurance and Actuarial Science is a regular event held every two years by the Nankai-Taikang College of Insurance and Actuarial Science. The Conference aims to strengthen high-level international cooperation, facilitate communication between domestic actuarial science discipline and international academic circles, and promote the development of actuarial science education and research in China.
